The Valleys Innovation Council Supports the region by connecting, communicating, and collaborating with stakeholders to grow and strengthen our innovation economy.
Regional Entrepreneur Initiative - VIC serves as the Regional Entrepreneurship Initiative coordinator for Region 2 of Virginia on behalf of the Region 2 GO Virginia Council. In this role, VIC facilitates four Innovation + Entrepreneurship coalitions across the region, supports grant activity of service organizations by providing technical assistance, publishes a regional newsletter and annual state of the innovation ecosystem report and has developed a strategic investment plan for Region 2 to address gaps and opportunities in the further development of the regional innovation support ecosystem and economy.
Tracking Regional Economy - VIC works with local, regional, and state-level stakeholders to create, implement, and track relevant metrics to evaluate the state of the regional innovation + entrepreneurship ecomony and its supporting ecosystem in the region, including its startup ecosystem. These baseline innovation economy measures enabled VIC to begin benchmarking the region with peer regions around the state and nationally. During the first year of this initiative, VIC developed and now hosts a dashboard to make the resulting data available for review and analysis. The data also aids additional VIC focus areas to begin telling the regional story of innovation and to identify gaps and obstacles that may be preventing the region from achieving its full potential with regard to innovation-based economic development and ecosystem building
Telling the Regional Story - partnering with regional stakeholders to develop strategies to highlight regional innovation successes and assets. Valleys Innovation Council developed a website (www.valleysinnovation.org) to serve as the region's front door for the entrepreneurial ecosystem. The website provides news about the region's technology-based companies. university research, a resource director which includes links to key service and capital providers, and access to VIC sponsored research on issues such as capital access, and regional innovation metrics to allow for tracking progress on the growth of the regional innovation economy.
