The Safe Routes to School National Partnerships mission is to advance safe walking and bicycling to and from schools, and in daily life, to improve the health and well-being of Americas children and to foster the creation of livable, sustainable communities.
Through the Safe Routes to Parks Activating Communities Program, the National Partnership provides grants and tailored technical assistance to help communities develop and begin to implement Safe Routes to Parks action plans. The action plans provide clear steps to improve local park access and safety for people walking, biking, and rolling.
The National Partnerships Regional Network Project focuses on building relationships, coalitions and action plans to inform, organize and capitalize on opportunities to guide policy change and leverage funding for Safe Routes to School and active transportation. The initiative operates in three selected markets around the country (Pacific Northwest; Northern California; Southern California). This project has helped create demand for Safe Routes to School initiatives and advance active transportation policies and funding streams within the targeted regions.
The National Partnership serves as the community lead for the Voices for Healthy Kids project, in partnership with the American Heart Association and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Through this initiative, we engage national, state, and local coalition partners and provide technical assistance to advance healthy eating and active living policies throughout the country.
