Organizations Filed Purposes: By partnering with vulnerable communities in Ethiopia, we strive to equip vulnerable people to live stable and sustainable lives. Our mission is to cultivate community development and economic capacity by empowering families through education, health and income generating activities. Our work with vulnerable communities over the past 10 years has firmly formed our understanding of this reality: quality education, access to accurate information and direct physical health care, and the opportunity to secure income and economic stability are critical factors in sustaining life outside of poverty. Our model is strategically designed to replace the cycle of generational loss, joblessness and chronic illness with a cycle of restoration by focusing our programs on strengthening education, health care and livelihoods. True sustainability is only possible when the attitudes, beliefs and behaviors within a community support its continued development. We are relently focused on increasing communi

Our mission is to cultivate community development and economic capacity by empowering families through education, health, and income generating activities.

Ethiopia Operations: We partner with rural communities to create sustainable pathways out of poverty by: - Delivering high-quality health education, empowering community health trainers, and giving direct medical care so that people can LIVE long and healthy lives - Restoring the opportunity for children and adults to LEARN through high quality early childhood, primary, secondary, and vocational education - Equipping men and women to EARN a predictable income through business development training and savings groups to create financial resilience - Building the capacity of community leaders to maintain program initiatives, so that communities can sustain gains and THRIVE for years to come. In 2019, our program services and implementation in Ethiopia included the rehabilitation and administration of a community school for 413 vulnerable students, grades K-8, professional development for teachers in community schools, and the surrounding geographic area, development of Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs), and administration of quarterly parent meetings, to increase participation in education. Savings and loan groups served 84 women, and 164 small business loans were distributed among members, by group decision, for the development of micro-businesses and financial resilience and social support networks. 645 people were served through community health training and direct service mobile medical clinics, as well as hand washing, hygiene and sanitation training. 96 households completed their first home latrine. The launch of local Community Development Committees facilitates local empowerment and engages community members in long term vision and planning planning. We partner with government and local stakeholders to ensure that projects are well-supported, focus on contextually relevant methodologies for change, and address micro and macro systems within each community.

Mobilization: Our mobilization work centers on education and awareness raising in the United States through training volunteer teams to travel to Ethiopia for the purposes of advancing the mission and program activities.

Child Sponsorship program: In 2019, 95 children in our sponsorship program received educational and medical support, tutorial classes, household training and encouragement through our sponsorship program in order to provide critical support to the most destitute households as they increase their income and health-promoting behaviors. Families are selected for participation in the sponsorship program by the Community Development Committee, which is trained and formed by Three Roots, according to specific criteria. This ensures that sponsorship households are selected by community members, and that the community recognizes the sponsorship program as being in place to support the entire community, through enhanced child development, health and education outcomes.
