Organizations Filed Purposes: VOLUNTEER FAIRFAX LEADS, CONNECTS, AND MOBILIZES PEOPLE AND RESOURCES TO MEET COMMUNITY NEEDS THROUGH TARGETED VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT OF DIVERSE POPULATIONS TO SERVE THEIR COMMUNITIES. WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PUBLIC AGENCIES, NONPROFITS, VOLUNTEERS, AND CORPORATIONS WE ADDRESS CRITICAL NEEDS THROUGH TARGETED VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT BY AMPLIFYING COMMUNITY IMPACT THROUGH INTENTIONAL VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT RANGING FROM INDIVIDUAL TO ORGANIZED GROUP PROJECTS.

VOLUNTEER FAIRFAX'S SIX SIGNATURE PROGRAMS OFFER OPPORTUNITIES FOR DIVERSE POPULATIONS TO SERVE THEIR COMMUNITIES IN WAYS THAT SUIT THEIR LIFESTYLES, SKILLS, AND INTERESTS. OUR VOLUNTEERS SUPPORT A WIDE RANGE OF ACTIVITIES FROM SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES THAT FEED, CLOTHE, AND HOUSE THOUSANDS OF FAMILIES AND PERSONS LIVING IN POVERTY TO ASSISTING AT EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS EVENTS AND NATIONAL DAYS OF SERVICE. COVID-19 HAS NECESSITATED A SHIFT IN OUR OPERATIONS TO WORK DIRECTLY WITH FAIRFAX COUNTY AND OUR PARTNER NONPROFITS ON PROMOTING AND ASSISTING WITH COLLECTION OF IN-KIND AND MONETARY DONATIONS. WE CURRENTLY SERVE, CONSERVATIVELY, AN ESTIMATED 200,000 FAIRFAX COUNTY RESIDENTS (17% OF THE POPULATION) AND OTHER NORTHERN VIRGINIANS MONTHLY THROUGH THE COLLECTION OF PPE (DISTRIBUTED TO UP TO 58,000 FRONT-LINE HEALTH CARE AND ESSENTIAL WORKERS); FOOD (INCLUDING 11,200 CLIENTS OF "FOOD FOR OTHERS; 44,000 NEWLY UNEMPLOYED; AND, 93,000 NONPROFIT AGENCY BENEFICIERIES LIVING AT OR BELOW THE POVERTY LINE); AND, BASIC NECESSITIES SUCH AS HYGINE AND BABY SUPPLIES. OUR WEBSITE, WHICH HOSTS A COVID-19 DONATION AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY PAGE, HAS HAD OVER 54,000 VISITS SINCE MARCH 2020. SINCE THE START OF THE SHUT-DOWN UNDER PREVAILING HEALTH PRECAUTIONS, WE HAVE REFERRED 1,200 VOLUNTEERS TO APPROPRIATE IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL OPPORTUNITIES. AS PHASED REOPENING CONTINUES, WE ANTICIPATE THIS NUMBER WILL INCREASE EXPONENTIALLY. FOLLOWING ARE OUR SIX SIGNATURE PROGRAMS, FOUR OF WHICH HAVE BEEN IDLED DURING COVID-19, DUE TO SAFETY PROTOCOLS AND ARE SLOWLY COMING BACK ONLINE, WHICH INCLUDE: (1) VOLUNTEERS FOR CHANGE (VFC)-PROVIDES FLEXIBLE, MEANINGFUL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THOSE VOLUNTEERS LOOKING FOR A SHORT-TERM COMMITMENT. ON AVERAGE THERE ARE OVER 60 FLEXIBLE EVENING AND WEEKEND OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE POSTED ON THE VOLUNTEER FAIRFAX WEB PORTAL. IN FY20, 488 VFC VOLUNTEERS GAVE 4,106 SERVICE HOURS COMPLETING 526 PROJECTS IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA COMMUNITIES. (2) THE ALTERNATIVE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM (ACS)-ASSISTS COURT- AND ATTORNEY-REFERRED CLIENTS IN AVOIDING FINES OR JAIL SENTENCES BY VOLUNTEERING. IN FY20, 421 CLIENTS COMPLETED 19,591 SERVICE HOURS AT 112 AREA AGENCIES. (3) THE RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (RSVP)-MANAGED BY VOLUNTEER FAIRFAX SINCE 2013, RSVP IS A PROGRAM OF THE CORPORATION FOR NATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE'S SENIOR CORPS. RSVP MATCHES THOSE OVER 55 WITH NONPROFIT PROGRAMS THAT NEED THEIR EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS. RSVP VOLUNTEERS FOCUS ON HEALTHY FUTURES, AGING IN PLACE, AND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY. IN FY20, 337 RSVP VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED 10,317 HOURS TO 43 LOCAL AGENCIES. (4) NONPROFIT VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT TRAINING PROGRAM-THIS PROGRAM OFFERS BASIC TO ADVANCED TRAINING TO TEACH NONPROFITS HOW TO UTILIZE THEIR VOLUNTEERS AND PROVIDE A POSITIVE VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE. TO SUPPORT AGENCIES WITH CRITICAL TRAINING DURING THE COVID-19 CRISIS, WE PIVOTED FROM A FEE-BASED TO AN ONLINE, FREE MODEL IN MARCH. IN FY20, WE HELD 28TRAINING SESSIONS WITH 490 PARTICIPANTS. (5) EMERGENCY RESPONSE-VOLUNTEER FAIRFAX IS THE COUNTY'S DESIGNATED LEAD AGENCY FOR VOLUNTEER AND DONATION MANAGEMENT IN THE EVENT OF EMERGENCY OR DISASTER. COVID-19 HAS NECESSITATED A SHIFT IN OUR OPERATIONS TO WORK DIRECTLY WITH THE COUNTY AND OTHER NONPROFITS. EXAMPLES OF VF'S HIGH-LEVEL IMPACT INCLUDE: MANAGING A SINGLE $80,000 DONATION OF 75,000 PIECES OF NON-MEDICAL GRADE PPE; ACCEPTING 15,000 KN95 MASKS AND 1,100 PLASTIC FACE SHIELDS; COLLECTING AND DISTRIBUTING 20 PALLETS OF FOOD TO FOOD FOR OTHERS, WORKING IN COLLABORATION WITH VOLUNTARY ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVE IN DISASTER (VOAD) AND VOLUNTEER ALEXANDRIA; AND, RECRUITING 88 VOLUNTEER TRANSLATORS, FLUENT IN 20 LANGUGES, TO HELP FAIRFAX COUNTY'S HUMAN SERVICE AGENCIES MEET THE RECOVERY NEEDS OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES WHERE ENGLISH IS NOT THE FIRST SPOKEN LANGUAGE.(6) CORPORATE SERVICES-CONNECTS BUSINESSES WITH HIGH IMPACT OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE, INCREASING THE CAPACITY OF LOCAL NONPROFIT AND PUBLIC ORGANIZATIONS BY ADDING CORPORATE SKILLS AND EXPERTISE TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES THROUGH ITS BUSINESSLINK, BOARDLINK, AND SKILLS-BASED VOLUNTEERING PROGRAMS. BUSINESSLINK PROVIDES PROJECT MANAGEMENT EXPERTISE TO THOSE BUSINESSES SEEKING CUSTOMIZED EMPLOYEE SERVICE ENGAGEMENTS. IN FY19, 7 CORPORATE PARTNERS COMPLETED 9 SERVICE PROJECTS WITH 273 STAFF VOLUNTEERING 720 HOURS. BOARDLINK'S TAILORED MATCHING SERVICE CONNECTS PROFESSIONALS TO NONPROFITS SEEKING BOARD MEMBERS. IN FY20, FOURTEEN INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATED IN THE PROGRAM WITH EIGHT PLACEMENTS. SKILLS-BASED VOLUNTEERING GIVES COMPANIES THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE SPECIALIZED SERVICES TO NONPROFITS ON A PRO BONO BASIS IN FUNCTIONAL AREAS SUCH AS LEGAL, ACCOUNTING, AND IT. IN FY20, 41 PROFESSIONALS VOLUNTEERED 2,558 HOURS OF SERVICE.

VOLUNTEER FAIRFAX HOSTS THREE SIGANTURE EVENTS ANNUALLY. THE FIRST TWO ARE REGION-WIDE DAYS OF SERVICE. (1) VOLUNTEERFEST, HELD EVERY OCTOBER, OFFERS VOLUNTEERS ONE-TIME OPPORTUNITIES WITH DOZENS OF LOCAL NONPROFITS, ENABLING THEM TO COMPLETE SINGLE-DAY SERVICE PROJECTS. IN FY20, WE ENGAGED 350 VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTING 1,050 SERVICE HOURS. SEVENTEEN NONPROFITS BENEFITTED WITH 21 PROJECTS COMPLETED. (2) GIVE TOGETHER, HONORING MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.'S DAY OF SERVICE, FOCUSES ON FAMILY-FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES SUCH AS MAKING FLEECE BLANKETS FOR SHELTERS AND VALENTINES FOR FOSTER YOUTH. THIS EVENT ENABLES EVEN THE YOUNGEST IN OUR COMMUNITY TO VOLUNTEER THEREBY PLANTING THE SEED OF SERVICE. FOUR AGENCIES BENEFITTED FROM THE ASSISTANVCE OF 1,050 VOLUNTEERS COMPLETING 2,550 HOURS OF SERVICE. (3) EVERY APRIL WE HOST THE FAIRFAX COUNTY VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARDS TO RECOGNIZE INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS IN THE COUNTY WHO HAVE PROVIDED OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THEIR COMMUNITIES IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR. HELD ANNUALLY IN APRIL, THIS YEAR'S EVENT WAS MOVED TO A VIRTUAL PLATFORM. "KUDOBOARDS" WERE CREATED FOR THE 23 AWARDEES ON OUR WEBSITE RECIEIVING 492 CONGRATULATORY MESSAGES FROM THE PUBLIC.THE 14 COMPETITIVE AWARD CATEGORIES HONOR ADULTS, FAMILIES, YOUTH, AND SENIORS AS WELL AS CORPORATE, COUNTY, AND NONPROFIT VOLUNTEER GROUPS WHICH HONORED 82 COMPETITIVE AND 70 BENCHMARK NOMINEES, RESPECTIVELY. TEN COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS WERE ALSO RECOGNIZED BY THEIR COUNTY DISTRICT SUPERVISORS.
