NRI CONDUCTED AN ASSESSMENT OF ORANGE COUNTY, NC BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SYSTEM OF CARE FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS AND PROVIDED RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT.NRI IDENTIFIED OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT OF COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN THE EASTERN LOUISIANA MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM AND THE LOUISANA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH WITH REGARD TO MONITORING OF HOSPITAL OPERATIONS AND QUALITY OF CARE THROUGH THE USE OF KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS.NRI, ALONG WITH PARTNER AHP, SYNTHESIZED AND EVALUATED THE CURRENT STATE OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT PERFORMANCE MEASURES AND THE PROCESS OF REPORTING PERFORMANCE MEASURES FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CONDITIONS, PARTICULARLY SERIOUS MENTAL ILLNESSES.NRI, ALONG WITH PARTNER AHP, DEVELOPED A WHITE PAPER FOR SAMHSA, CONSISTING OF ELEVEN PRINCIPLES OF ACUTE INPATIENT CARE. THE PRINCIPLES ADDRESSED INCREASED ATTENTION TO REFERRAL, INTAKE, EVIDENCE-BASED CARE, REASONS FOR ADMISSION, DISCHARGE PLANNING, AND CARE TRANSITIONS.
THE PERFORMANCE QUALITY IMPROVEMENT (PQI) PROGRAM SERVES NEARLY 200 FREE-STANDING PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITALS IN THEIR PURSUIT OF QUALITY METRICS AND IMPROVEMENT OF CARE. DURING 2018, THE PQI PROGRAM PROVIDED MONTHLY E-NEWSLETTERS AND EDUCATIONAL WEBINARS FOCUSED ON IMPROVEMENT TOOLS, CLINICAL BEST PRACTICES, AND EXTERNAL REQUIREMENTS. THE PQI PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES COMPARISON REPORTS TO ASSIST THE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITALS WITH MONITORING PERFORMANCE LEVELS ON KEY INDICATORS OF QUALITY OF CARE. FINALLY, PQI RELEASED SEVERAL PUBLICATIONS THAT APPLIED ADVANCED ANALYTICS TO PATTERNS OF PERFORMANCE ON PATIENT SATISFACTION, READMISSION RATES AND USE OF ANTIPSYCHOTIC MEDICATIONS, AMONG OTHERS.
NRI, THROUGH A COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIP WITH SAMHSA'S CENTER FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH STATISTICS AND QUALITY (CBHSQ), SAMHSA'S CENTER FOR MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES (CMHS), AND EAGLE TECHNOLOGIES, INC. WORKS WITH ALL 50 STATES AND U.S. TERRITORIES TO ENHANCE THEIR DATA REPORTING CAPACITIES, INCREASE THEIR USE OF DATA IN SYSTEM OVERSIGHT AND PLANNING, AND FACILITATE REPORTING OF THEIR COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH BLOCK GRANT PERFORMANCE MEASURES AND NATIONAL OUTCOME MEASURES (NOMS). EACH YEAR, STATES AND TERRITORIES SUBMIT THEIR UNIFORM REPORTING SYSTEM (URS) AND MENTAL HEALTH CLIENT-LEVEL (MH-CLD) DATA TO NRI FOR PROCESSING, REVIEW AND ANALYSIS.
NRI PROVIDES STATE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, IN COLLABORATION WITH NASMHPD, TO THE SAMHSA CENTER FOR MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES. THIS INITIATIVE ASSISTS 23 STATES THAT HAVE RECEIVED FUNDING IN DEVELOPING AND/OR EXPANDING A CRISIS BED REGISTRY SYSTEM. NRI IS SHARING INFORMATION WITH THE STATES VIA WEBINARS AND CONFERENCE CALLS AND IS PREPARING A REPORT SUMMARIZING THE EXPERIENCES AND LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE 23 STATES.
