These services include patient counseling, therapy management, assistant to providers, and health literacy classes/workshops. The health literacy workshops started in 2017. 672 patients increased their health literacy and learned the value of preventative care during 36 workshops on 13 different topics. NSC engages the Northern Virginia community to tackle public health issues of health disparities, social determinants of health and health literacy. They provide a robust free community health education program which is focused on empowering vulnerable communities to understand health issues and identify health resources that they can use to improve their health. NSC has developed the NOVA Scripts Compass is a free online tool to help make it easier for individuals to find resources to help address the social determinants of health.
