THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION IS A DEVOTED ADVOCATE FOR THE VITALITY AND WELL- BEING OF THE RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER REGION. (CONTINUED IN SCHEDULE O)
THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION STANDS READY TO HELP IN THE EVENT OF ANY SERIOUS CHALLENGE AFFECTING OUR REGION. ONE PRIMARY MEANS OF INTERVENTION IS THE COMMUNITY RELIEF FUND. ESTABLISHED IN OCTOBER 2019, IT STANDS READY IN CASE OF ANY POSSIBLE FUTURE THREAT TO OUR COMMUNITY. IN MARCH 2020, THE FOUNDATION ACTIVATED THE FUND AND INITIATED A COVID-19 RESPONSE EFFORT TO CONVENE GENEROUS DONORS, ASSESS COMMUNITY NEEDS AND DISTRIBUTE RAPID RESPONSE GRANTS TO AREA NONPROFITS. IN JUNE 2020, THE FOUNDATION ESTABLISHED A NEW FUND AND CORRESPONDING INITIATIVE TO ADVANCE RACIAL EQUITY IN OUR REGION. (CONTINUED IN SCHEDULE O)
THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION'S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS PRESERVE AND GROW THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN OUR REGION BY SUPPORTING EDUCATION FOR AREA STUDENTS. GENEROUS INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES, COMPANIES AND ORGANIZATIONS ESTABLISH ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS AND THE PROCEEDS FROM THESE FUNDS BENEFIT DESERVING STUDENTS. STAFF RECEIVE APPLICATIONS FROM AREA STUDENTS, RECRUIT AND TRAIN VOLUNTEER REVIEWERS AND ADMINISTER SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS. AS A SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION WITH THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION'S EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT SCHOLARSHIPS TAX CREDITS PROGRAM, THE FOUNDATION ADMINISTERS GIFTS TO ENSURE ACCESS TO AREA INDEPENDENT K-12 SCHOOLS FOR LOW-INCOME STUDENTS.
YOUTH IN PHILANTHROPY TEACHES AREA TEENAGERS THE IMPORTANCE OF GIVING AND SERVING, ENCOURAGES YOUTH INVOLVEMENT IN PHILANTHROPY, AND PROVIDES WAYS FOR LOCAL YOUNG PEOPLE TO TAKE ACTION ON ISSUES THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO THEM. THE PROGRAM CONSISTS OF 35 SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR, AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM THE COUNTIES OF STAFFORD, SPOTSYLVANIA, KING GEORGE, AND CAROLINE, AND THE CITY OF FREDERICKSBURG. EACH GRANT CYCLE CHALLENGES THESE YOUNG PEOPLE TO DEMONSTRATE LEADERSHIP, SOLVE PROBLEMS, STUDY PROPOSALS, MANAGE BUDGETS, WORK TOGETHER AND PRESENT THEIR VIEWS TO AN AUDIENCE OF PEERS AND ADULTS.
