Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF WARREN COUNTY IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO PROVIDING COMPASSIONATE CARE TO ABANDONED, ABUSED, HOMELESS AND NEGLECTED ANIMALS IN OUR COMMUNITY. WE AIM TO EDUCATE PET OWNERS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF VACCINATIONS AND POPULATION CONTROL AND TO PLACE ADOPTABLE PETS IN LOVING HOMES.
THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF WARREN COUNTY BELIEVES THAT SPAY/NEUTER SURGERIES ARE VITAL TO CONTROL THE OVERPOPULATION OF CATS AND DOGS AND REDUCE THE RATE OF EUTHANASIA FOR ANIMAL SHELTERS. HSWC SUPPORTS SPAY/NEUTER IN THREE WAYS: A.ALTERNATE FUND 1. HSWC PROVIDES SPAY/NEUTER SERVICES TO BOTH SURRENDERED AND STRAY ANIMALS THAT COME INTO THE SHELTER. SHELTER PETS SPAY/NEUTER SURGERIES ARE SPONSORED BY HSWC VOLUNTEERS AND DONORS. ANNUALLY THOSE SPONSORSHIPS ALLOW HSWC TO ENSURE APPROXIMATELY 250 ADOPTABLE ANIMALS ARE ALTERED PRIOR TO ADOPTION. B.TRAP NEUTER RETURN (TNR) 1. CONTROLLING FERAL/COMMUNITY CATS COMPASSIONATELY CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED WITH A TRAP NEUTER RETURN PROGRAM (TNR). TNR STABILIZES FERAL/COMMUNITY CAT COLONIES AND IMPROVES THEIR LIVES. THE BEHAVIORS ASSOCIATED WITH MATING (HOWLING/SPRAYING/FIGHTING) WILL LESSEN OR STOP ALL TOGETHER. STUDIES SHOW THAT THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO DEAL WITH A FERAL CAT COLONY IS TO TNR. SIMPLY TRAPPING CATS TO ERADICATE/EUTHANIZE IS NOT THE ANSWER- IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE NEW CATS WILL MOVE IN. HSWC ASSISTS CAT COLONY CARETAKERS WITH TRAP NEUTER RETURN SERVICES AND APPROPRIATE COLONY MANAGEMENT. HSWC IS ABLE TO SAVE THE LIVES OF APPROXIMATELY 200 COMMUNITY CATS EACH YEAR AND STOP PROLIFERATION DUE TO TNR. C.OWNED PETS LOW COST SPAY NEUTER 1. THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF WARREN COUNTY PARTNERS WITH ANICIRA VETERINARY CENTER IN HARRISONBURG, VIRGINIA, TO OFFER A LOW COST SPAY/NEUTER OPTION TO RESIDENTS WHO COULD NOT OTHERWISE AFFORD TO HAVE THEIR PETS ALTERED. THROUGH THIS PARTNERSHIP APPROXIMATELY 800 OWNED PETS IN WARREN COUNTY RECEIVE SPAY/NEUTER SURGERIES.
EVERY PET THAT COMES INTO THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF WARREN COUNTY RECEIVES A BASIC MEDICAL AND BEHAVIORAL EVALUATION. EACH PET IS PROVIDED WITH AGE APPROPRIATE VACCINATIONS AND FLEA/TICK TREATMENTS. SHELTER PETS WHO PRESENT WITH BASIC ILLNESSES SUCH AS UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS OR SKIN INFECTIONS ARE PROVIDED THE MEDICATION THEY NEED TO HEAL. THERE ARE SOME PETS WHO NEED ADVANCED MEDICAL PROCEDURES SUCH AS DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND SURGERIES.
HAND IN PAW HELPING PEOPLE AND PETS IN CRISIS IS A UNIQUE PROGRAM AVAILABLE TO THE RESIDENTS OF WARREN COUNTY, VA. BY FOCUSING ON PREVENTION OF PET HOMELESSNESS, WE AIM TO KEEP PETS OUT OF THE OVERCROWDED SHELTER SYSTEM AND WITH OWNERS WHO LOVE THEM. AS FUNDS ALLOW, HAND IN PAW IS ABLE TO PROVIDE RESIDENTS WITH FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR PET RELATED NEEDS SUCH AS SPAY/NEUTER, EMERGENCY VETERINARY CARE, TEMPORARY BOARDING, AND BEHAVIORAL TRAINING. IN ADDITION, PET FOOD AND SUPPLIES ARE PROVIDED TO PET OWNERS IN NEED THROUGH THE HSWC'S PET FOOD PANTRY.
