The Goochland Education Foundation mission is to provide funding for innovative learning opportunities for Goochland County Public School students.
Critical Thinking and Debate program at Goochland High School. Received non-federal collaboration of funds through The Community Foundation (Richmond, VA) grant to continue a program started in 2012 to offer a critical thinking and debate classes and after-school activities at the high school by partially funding a teaching position and coaching stipends. The funds are restricted for this purpose and had a starting balance of $25,517.
Goochland County Public School internet connectivity program. A Carmax Foundation grant allowed the Foundation in partnership with the Schools to purchase, deliver, and pay monthly access fees for approximately 175 economically disadvantaged students to have an internet hotspot to access the internet in their homes and outside the schools in a rural county where there is limited internet service. This allowed these students to bridge the digital divide that was preventing them from taking full advantage of the 1:1 iPads they were assigned for "anytime/anywhere" educational opportunities.
Capital One awarded a restricted grant for securing resources and leadership for the organization, as part of a long-range strategic plan. This grant will provide salary for a part-time executive director.
