NORTHERN VIRGINIA TECHNOLOGY COUNCIL (NVTC) IS THE REGIONAL VOICE OF TECHNOLOGY, REPRESENTING A DIVERSE AND THRIVING TECHNOLOGY ECOSYSTEM, PROMOTING INNOVATION, AND CONVENING, EDUCATING, AND ADVOCATING FOR THE REGION'S TECHNOLOGY COMMUNITY.

EVENTS, PROGRAM AND MEMBER SERVICES - NVTC HAD WELL OVER 100 MEETINGS AND EVENTS RANGING FROM THE COMMITTEE LEVEL WITH ATTENDANCE FOR TARGETED AREAS OF INDUSTRY OR INTEREST GROUPS TO THE FULL MEMBERSHIP EVENT SERIES OR SIGNATURE BANQUETS INCLUDING ANNUAL CFO AWARDS, TECH 100 AWARDS, THREE INDUSTRY SUMMITS, AND TITAN'S SERIES. THE NUMBER OF REGISTRANTS RANGE FROM 20 TO NEARLY 800. THE SUCCESS IS DUE TO OBTAINING VERY HIGH LEVEL INDUSTRY SPEAKERS CREATING SIGNIFICANT TICKET AND SPONSORSHIP SALES FOR THESE ANNUAL EVENTS. MEMBER INSURANCE, HEALTH, AND 401K PROGRAMS PROVIDE ACCESSIBLE RESOURCES TO OUR MEMBERS, AS WELL AS DISCOUNTED SERVICES AND PRODUCTS. OUR MEMBERS RECEIVE A QUARTERLY INDUSTRY PUBLICATION PRODUCED BY NVTC, WHICH ASSISTS IN BRANDING OUR REGION AS A TECHNOLOGY HUB. NVTC'S QUARTERLY PUBLICATION SWITCHED TO A 100% ONLINE PUBLICATION. NVTC'S AGGRESSIVE STATE LOBBYING AND LEGISLATIVE ACTIVITIES ASSIST IN SUPPORTING OUR MEMBER'S INTERESTS. OUR MANY EVENTS PROVIDE IMMEASURABLE NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES. REVENUE FROM OUR EVENTS AND PROGRAMS GENERATED APPROXIMATELY 50% OF TOTAL INCOME.
PUBLIC POLICY - NVTC'S EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DEVELOPING OUR ORGANIZATION'S ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE AGENDA. THE LEGISLATIVE AGENDA IS SUPPORTED THROUGH LOBBYING EFFORTS BY NVTC STAFF AND AN EXTERNAL CONSULTANT. WE INCORPORATE TARGETED EVENTS, MEETINGS, AND PROGRAMS TO FULFILL OUR PUBLIC POLICY AND LEGISLATIVE EFFORTS. WE CURRENTLY UTILIZE APPROXIMATELY 32% OF OUR MEMBERSHIP DUES TO SUPPORT OUR LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY EFFORTS. 2019 NVTC STATE LOBBYING AND LEGISLATIVE EFFORTS HELPED ACHIEVE SEVERAL INITIATIVES IN SUPPORT OF VIRGINIA'S TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY INCLUDING: LEGISLATION TO CREATE THE MAJOR HEADQUARTERS WORKFORCE GRANT FUND TO PROVIDE THE INCENTIVE PACKAGE TO SUPPORT AMAZON'S MAJOR NEW CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS IN NATIONAL LANDING ($2.5 BILLION INVESTMENT, 25,000+ NEW JOBS). LEGISLATION TO CREATE THE SEMICONDUCTOR MANUFACTURING GRANT FUND TO PROVIDE INCENTIVE GRANTS TO SUPPORT MICRON'S $3 BILLION EXPANSION IN MANASSAS. LEGISLATION WHICH CONFORMS VIRGINIA'S TAX CODE TO THE FEDERAL TAX CUTS AND JOBS ACT (TCJA). LEGISLATION AIMED AT LIMITING LIABILITY IN MAJOR IT CONTRACTS TO 2X THE VALUE OF THE CONTRACT. NVTC SUCCESSFULLY OPPOSED LEGISLATION WHICH WOULD HAVE REQUIRED THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER (OEM) OF DIGITAL ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT TO MAKE AVAILABLE TO INDEPENDENT REPAIR PROVIDERS AND ANY OWNER OF EQUIPMENT THE SAME DIAGNOSTIC, SCHEMATICS, ACCESS TO PARTS AND REPAIR INFORMATION THE OEM MAKES AVAILABLE TO ITS AUTHORIZED REPAIR PROVIDERS. NVTC SUCCESSFULLY OPPOSED LEGISLATION THAT WOULD HAVE REQUIRED EVERY MANUFACTURER OF A DEVICE SOLD IN VIRGINIA THAT IS CAPABLE OF CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET TO FILE AN ANNUAL REPORT WITH VIRGINIA'S CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER (CIO) PROVING THEIR COMPLIANCE WITH WHATEVER CURRENT SECURITY STANDARDS ARE AT THE TIME OF THE FILING. NVTC SUCCESSFULLY OPPOSED LEGISLATION WHICH WOULD HAVE ADVANCED THE SUNSET DATE OF THE REAL PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION FOR SOLAR PROJECTS GREATER THAN 20 MEGAWATTS FROM 2024 TO 2020.
