IODP: - DEPLOYS STATE-OF-THE-ART OCEAN DRILLING TECHNOLOGIES AS ITS ESSENTIAL TOOL OF DISCOVERY,- UNIFIES THE INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH COMMUNITY TO EXPLORE EARTH AS A SYSTEM,- ADVANCES FUTURE RESEARCH AND DISCOVERY THROUGH DISSEMINATION OF DATA AND SAMPLES FROM GLOBAL ARCHIVES, AND- PROVIDES SCIENTIFIC CONTEXT FOR GLOBAL AWARENESS OF GEOHAZARDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE.

TO PROVIDE VITAL INFORMATION OF THE EARTH SYSTEM WITH WHICH HUMANKIND HAS INCREASING INTERACTION, THROUGH EXCITING EXPEDITIONS TO "INNER SPACE" REALIZED BY MULTIPLE-PLATFORM SCIENTIFIC DRILLING.

GEOLOGICAL & EARTH SCIENCES RESEARCH PROGRAMS: IN FY2014, D/V JOIDES RESOLUTION CONDUCTED FIVE EXPEDITIONS IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN. AFTER COMPLETING THE MID-ATLANTIC RIDGE MICROBIOLOGY EXPEDITION, THE VESSEL CONDUCTED FOUR EXPEDITIONS INCLUDING AREAS OFF THE WEST IBERIAN MARGIN, LESSER ANTILLES AND NORTH ATLANTIC. THE DRILLING VESSEL CHIKYU CONDUCTED TWO EXPEDITIONS OFFSHORE NORTHEAST JAPAN DRILLING, WHICH SET DEEP DRILLING RECORDS.ENGINEERING DEVELOPMENT & INDUSTRY COLLABORATION: IODP-MI CONTINUED DEVELOPING A MOTION DECOUPLED HYDRAULIC DELIVERY SYSTEM, SIMPLE CABLED INSTRUMENTS FOR MEASURING PROPERTIES IN SITU TO BE PUT INTO SEA TRIAL IN FY2014. IODP-MI CONDUCTED A FEASIBILITY STUDY ON DRILLING THROUGH THE OCEANIC CRUST TO THE MANTLE UNDER THE AWARD GRANTED BY THE SLOAN FOUNDATION.OUTREACH AND PUBLICATIONS: IODP-MI DELIVERED INFORMATION ABOUT IODP TO THE SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY, EDUCATORS, STUDENTS, THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND THE MEDIA, CONSTANTLY UPDATING THE CONTENTS.
