Organizations Filed Purposes:
Our primary mission is to help living organ donors overcome financial burdens associated with organ donation, but we also provide assistance in whatever way donors say they need if it is within our expertise to do so. We neither encourage nor discourage organ donation. We provide information, emotional support, financial assistance for donation related nonmedical expenses, and generally advocate for living organ donors.
Our largest program is providing grants to American living organ donors to help cover nonmedical living organ donation related expenses. This includes travel, lodging, and food for trips to the transplant center, lost wages. We also provide these benefits for those who act as caregivers to donors for their organ donation and their recovery. All expenses and lost wages are verified and compensation of lost wages is net wages after deductions.
Living organ donor education both for those who have donated and those considering donation. We provide detailed information on our website regarding medical, financial, social, and political issues relevant to living organ donation. Our website has a benefits by state tab, a medical articles tab, and a medical complications tab. We also write a quarterly newsletter with news and updates relevant to living organ donors, and run an online closed support group for only living organ donors and those considering donation.
We also do some public education on living organ donation. We neither encourage or discourage living organ donation, but most people don't even know it exists or about the medical and financial issues living organ donors face. So occasionally we do talks to inform the general public about living organ donation.
