OUR MISSION IS TO EXHIBIT THE WORK OF EMERGING AND ESTABLISHES ARTISTS FROM THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION; TO PROMOTE PUBLIC AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE CONCEPTS OF CONTEMPORARY ART; AND TO OFFER INSTRUCTION AND EDUCATION IN THE VISUAL ARTS.
MPA EXHIBITS WORK OF EMERGING ARTISTS AND PROMOTES CONTEMPORARY AND VISUAL ARTS.
EDUCATION (ART EDUCATION): MCLEAN PROJECT FOR THE ARTS (MPA) OFFERS STUDIO ART CLASSES FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS. WE CONTRACT WITH ABRAKOODLES FOR CLASSES FOR TODDLERS AND PRESCHOOLERS. WE PRESENT MPA'S ART CAMP EACH SUMMER; THIS YEAR WE ARE OFFERING FOURTEEN WEEK-LONG SESSIONS FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN. ALL CLASSES ARE TAUGHT BY ARTISTS. WE ALSO OFFER ART HISTORY LECTURES AND TOURS TO AREA MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES - A GREAT SERVICE FOR SENIORS.
EXHIBITIONS (ART GALLERY): MPA IS REGARDED AS ONE OF THE BEST VENUES IN THE GREATER WASHINGTON AREA FOR ARTISTS TO EXHIBIT AND THE PUBLIC TO VIEW CONTEMPORARY ART. MPA PRESENTS 12 TO 18 PROFESSIONALLY CURATED OR JURIED EXHIBITIONS BY REGIONAL ARTISTS EACH YEAR. EXHIBITIONS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING FOR EACH EXHIBITION INCLUDES A GALLERY TALK BY THE EXHIBITING ARTIST(S) OR CURATOR, AND MAY ALSO INCLUDE LECTURES, PANEL DISCUSSIONS, FAMILY WORKSHOPS AND DOCENT-LED TOURS. EVERY MARCH WE PRESENT THE YOUTH ART SHOW FEATURING WORKS BY STUDENTS ATTENDING 12 PUBLIC ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, AND HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE AREA. MPA IS A MUSEUM PARTNER OF THE VIRGINIA MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS (VMFA) AND BRINGS SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS FROM THE VMFA TO MCLEAN.
ARTFEST: MPA ARTFEST IS AN ANNUAL COMMUNITY-WIDE CELEBRATION OF THE VISUAL ARTS PRODUCED BY MCLEAN PROJECT FOR THE ARTS. DURING ARTFEST, MCLEAN CENTRAL PARK IS TRANSFORMED INTO A LIVELY LANDSCAPE OF MINI ART GALLERIES SHOWCASING AND OFFERING FOR SALE THE WORK OF ACCLAIMED ARTISTS FROM THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION.MEMBERSHIP: MEMBERSHIPS SUPPORT FOR THE PROGRAMS OF MPA. MEMBERS RECEIVE THE MPA NEWSLETTER, TOURISM AND INVITATIONS TO GALLERY EVENTS.
