Organizations Filed Purposes:
To provide a model of education for youth that helps to meet their basic needs and normalize their lives, allowing them to overcome the impact of disaster and conflict.
ACE has also provided support to Teach For Liberia (TFL) in its efforts to bring quality teachers to the schools of Liberia. TFLs four pronged strategy includes: Recruitment of qualified Liberian college graduates: Train and Support them with the know-how and resources to be successful teachers; Place them in high needs rural and urban classrooms for a 2-year teaching commitment; and lastly Foster an Alumni Movement of the teachers as leaders in both the education community and beyond.
ACE continues its annual support of Ann Sandell Independent School (a low-income, community-based primary school) for specialty teachers, and for the completion of the school cafeteria and improvement of the feeding program for students.
ACE continues its support of the teacher training program, which was initiated in 2018 in collaboration with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, Alpha Alpha Lambda Zeta Chapter (Zeta), Kakata Teacher Training Institute (KRTTI), and Liberia Community Network (LCN). In 2020, the monthly tutorials for 85 teachers stayed focus on the building of remedial skills to prepare participants for the C level certification exam required for primary school teachers: 70% of the training was on Content Math, Science, Phonics, Literacy, Grammar, and Vocabulary. 30% of the training was pedagogy, teaching aid, child development, values, change, civic engagement, cognitive learning, health, sex education including HIV which is now pandemic in Liberia. Due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, the summer intensive training was held in October and presented at 2 sites for social distancing. The teachers were also engaged in a community home schooling and literacy program.
