To develop Good Neighbors' skills and values in children through programs that nourish, educate, and support while providing lie-changing experiences for college students through leadership developpmenrt internships
Summer camp expenses include salaries, insurance, house expenses for interns. Significant staff hours had to be allocated by the program committee working with the Franklin and Bedford County School Systems to develop curricula that provided remedial education along with fun activities. Since everything was virtual, a lot of coordination was required to meet our mission. More information about accomplishments was stated in Part III, Line 2 Schedule O.
Student Enrichment in the Arts is an after school program held during the school year in Franklin County. Activities for this program were curtailed when the schools closed for in person classes. The cost was attributed to fees by the Virginia Children's Theater (Formerly, Roanoke Children's Theater). Children are taught to express themselves and perform a program in front of staff, volunteers, family members and teachers. Costs also included approximately $200 for after school snacks.
This cost is attributed to weekend backpack and book program Many of the children come from families at or below the povert line and most have very limited means. Food deprivation is a real concern and a large part of the mission of SML Good Neighbors. All children receive a new book each week along with 6 meals for the weekend. As stated earlier, the food and learning packets were distributed at a central location. Volunteers delivered to families who could not pick up their food, etc.
