Department of Motor Vehicles Grant/Its all Impaired Driving: SAFE received a grant in 2019 from Virginia Highway Safety Office through the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles to implement a mass and social media campaign to reduce and prevent alcohol and drug-impaired driving related crashes with 16 25 year olds. SAFE used the created DID You Know :30 second video PSA media campaign, traditional and social, to relay impaired driving prevention messaging on Spanish radio, television and social media outlets to target education and awareness towards the Chesterfield County community, including the Latino population. The DID You Know PSA was featured 1,512 times on radio and 1,304 times on Spanish radio. The radio campaigns made over 828,000 gross impressions in Chesterfield County. The DID You Know ad buys continued to reach great numbers of young adults in this grant cycle: across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and cable, SAFE was able to reach over 88,020 people and make over 4,015,859 impressions.SAFEs social media accounts made 368 posts related to drinking and drug-impaired driving prevention messaging. SAFEs social media campaigns made 387,066 impressions across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.SAFE has received funding from Virginia Highway Safety Office for the 2020 grant cycle to continue airing the Drug Impaired Driving drinking and drug-impaired driving prevention campaign along with other drug-impaired driving outreach strategies in the community, including creating an African-American Coalition. The 2020 Young Adult Survey measures attitudes, perceptions and behaviors related to substance use of 18-25 year olds in Chesterfield County. There were 496 responses this year (391 English, 115 Spanish). 97.35% are concerned with the issue of driving under the influence of alcohol and 96.82% are concerned with the issue of drug-impaired driving (marijuana and opioids) in their community.Other significant YAS results:- In the past 30 days, 94.80% of participants did not drive under the influence of alcohol- In the past 30 days, 94.80% of participants did not drive under the influence of drugs (marijuana or opioids)- 29.63% of participants believe there is a great risk when driving after consuming 1-2 alcoholic beverages- 83.60% of participants believe there is a great risk when driving after consuming 4-5 alcoholic beverages- 60.85% of participants believe there is a great risk when driving after consuming prescription opioids- 44.97% of participants believe there is a great risk when driving after using marijuana- 20.81% of participants chose to call a cab after drinking or using drugs- 13.29% of participants chose to ask a sober friend for a ride home after drinking or using drugs

SAFE Opioid and Heroin Prevention Task Force:The SAFE Opioid and Heroin Prevention Task Force was established out of a heroin prevention summit hosted by Chesterfield County Police and SAFE in July 2015. The task force consists of education and prevention, law enforcement, medical, and treatment and recovery committees.Task force members include various public and private sector professionals as well as those who have been personally affected by substance use disorder or have lost a loved one to overdose.Following the successful completion of the extensive Chesterfield County needs assessment and strategic planning phases, the Partnerships for Success needs assessment team joined forces with the SAFE Opioid and Heroin Prevention Task Force to further increase collaboration with our community partners as we move forward towards more strategy implementation.Task Force Accomplishments include:- Distributed over 42,000 heroin treatment resource cards throughout the community since 2015.- Completed Year 5 of the Partnerships for Success grant with Chesterfield County Prevention Services.- Over 25,000 pounds of medication collected at medication take-back events withChesterfield County Police Department and Sheriffs Office since 2010.- Legislative Advocacy during General Assembly 2020 including a Rally Day in which task force and community members met with legislators to advocate for bills related to opioid and heroin.- Secured additional funding for related strategies: HIDTA grant, OROC grant, CARA grant, VDH grant, and SOR grants. - SAFE, in partnership with Chesterfield County Police Department, has collected over 2,100 pounds of mediation at the medication disposal box in the Chesterfield County Police Department Headquarters on Iron Bridge Road since it was placed in July 2018. - The OHPTF also partnered with a pharmacist and medical reserve corp. volunteers to educate 60 local pharmacies on standing orders for Naloxone. - 2,000 Deterra medication disposal pouches were also distributed to the community. Continually growing and adding new members to the task force for further collaboration

Central Virginia Marijuana Prevention Task Force:SAFE continues to resist Big Marijuana to keep our youth healthy and roadways safe.? Participated in marijuana advocacy at General Assembly January - March, 2020 and distributed marijuana prevention literature through schools to youth and parents.
