Organizations Filed Purposes: TO PROVIDE EDUCATION, HOUSING AND OTHER ASSISTANCE NEEDED TO HOMELESS FAMILIES IN TRANSITION WITH A MISSION OF BREAKING THE CYCLE OF HOMELESSNESS AND POVERTY FOR FAMILIES AND CHILDREN, FORKIDS (WWW.FORKIDS.ORG) PROVIDES CRISIS RESPONSE, HOUSING & CRITICAL SERVICES, AND CHILDREN'S EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO FAMILIES EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS ACROSS HAMPTON ROADS, VIRGINIA.

TO PROVIDE EDUCATION, HOUSING AND OTHER ASSISTANCE NEEDED TO HOMELESS FAMILIES IN TRANSITION.

FORKIDS PROVIDES HOUSING SOLUTIONS INCLUDING HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION, EMERGENCY SHELTER, RAPID RE-HOUSING, PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING, SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR VETERAN FAMILIES AND TENANT BASED RENTAL ASSISTANCE TO ASSIST FAMILIES THROUGHOUT THE REGION. CRITICAL SERVICES INCLUDING CASE MANAGEMENT, HOUSING PLACEMENT, EMPLOYMENT SERVICES AND MEDICAL/MENTAL HEALTH COORDINATION TO HELP FAMILIES LOCATE APPROPRIATE HOUSING AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE AND ACHIEVE STABILITY. IN FY 19, FORKIDS PROVIDED 58,827 BED-NIGHTS OF HOUSING, SERVING NEARLY 1,500 INDIVIDUALS IN 446 HOUSEHOLDS WITH 90% OF FAMILIES EXITING A HOUSING PROGRAM TO APPROPRIATE HOUSING IN THE COMMUNITY.

THE CHILDREN'S EDUCATION PROGRAM PROVIDES CUSTOMIZED INSTRUCTION, MENTORING, ADVOCACY AND SUMMER PROGRAMS TO CHILDREN EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS AND THEIR FAMILIES. AFTERSCHOOL TUTORING PROGRAMS WORK WITH STUDENTS TO IMPROVE THEIR CORE SKILLS OF READING AND MATH, CORRECTLY COMPLETE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS AND PROVIDE ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES TO REINFORCE LEARNING AND IMPROVE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL COMPETENCIES. SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN ARE MONITORED TO ENSURE CONTINUED SUCCESS. STUDENTS ARE SERVED IN PROGRAMS AT FORKIDS' SITES, IN THEIR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OR TRAVEL TO THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 21ST CENTURY LEARNING CENTERS PROGRAM. IN FY19, 409 CHILDREN BENEFITTED FROM EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING. 159 STUDENTS RECEIVED TUTORING IN AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS. 95% OF ELIGIBLE STUDENTS WERE PROMOTED TO THE NEXT GRADE AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

THE HOUSING CRISIS HOTLINE, OPERATED BY FORKIDS, SERVES AS THE CENTRAL POINT OF INTAKE FOR INDIVIDUALS AND HOUSEHOLDS EXPERIENCING A HOUSING CRISIS, ANSWERING 54,000 CALLS IN FY19. INTAKE SPECIALISTS CONNECT CALLERS TO ANY ONE OF HUNDREDS OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE RESOURCES THROUGHOUT SOUTHEASTERN VIRGINIA, ASSESSING OPPORTUNITIES FOR DIVERSION FROM HOMELESSNESS WHENEVER POSSIBLE. IN FY 19, THE HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION PROGRAM, ACCESS THROUGH THE HOTLINE, SERVED 207 INDIVIDUALS IN 63 HOUSEHOLDS. FORKIDS' EXTENDED SERVICES, SPANNING 14 LOCALITIES AND OVER 3,000 SQUARE MILES, IMPACTED NEARLY 70,000 PEOPLE IN FY19.
