Organizations Filed Purposes:
VIRGINIA THEATRE ASSOCIATION IS ORGANIZED AND OPERATED AS A NON-STOCK CORPORATION, EXCLUSIVELY FOR NON-PROFIT EDUCATIONAL, ARTISTIC, AND CHARITABLE PURPOSES. THE MISSION OF THE VIRGINIA THEATRE ASSOCIATION IS TO CONNECT, DEVELOP, NURTURE AND ADVOCATE FOR THEATRE PEOPLE OF ALL AGES, AT EVERY LEVEL, FROM EVERY CORNER OF THE COMMONWEALTH, SERVING AS THE VOICE OF THEATRE IN VIRGINIA.
VTA, FOR ITS SIXTH YEAR, CONTINUED ITS GROWTH IN MEMBERSHIP, WHILE TAKING A YEAR TO EXAMINE PREVIOUS PROGRAMMING AND STAFFING NEEDS, IN AN EFFORT TO RETOOL THE ORGANIZATION FOR THE FUTURE. THIS CULMINATED IN OUR 2019 ANNUAL CONFERENCE, WHICH PLAYED HOST TO APPROXIMATELY 3,000 THEATRE PRACTITIONERS AND PROFESSIONALS IN NORFOLK, VIRGINIA, GENERATING NEARLY $1,000,000 TO THE LOCAL ECONOMY OVER THE COURSE OF FOUR DAYS. IN 2019 WE HOSTED SOME OF BROADWAY'S BIGGEST STARS, INCLUDING BETH LEAVEL AND KATE BALDWIN, AS WELL AS GUEST ARTISTS FROM A VARIETY OF BACKGROUNDS (HOLLYWOOD SCREENWRITERS, YOUTUBE STARS, AND TOURING PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS). THIS YEAR IN ADDITION TO OUR ANNUAL SPONSORSHIPS FROM BARBIZON, DRAMATISTS, PEPSI-COLA, AND ARTISTIC CONCEPTS WHICH CULMINATED IN OUR FIRST EVER MEMBER-WIDE THEATRICAL PRODUCTION, PROVIDING STUDENT MEMBERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN A STAGED READING OF AN ORIGINAL WORK WITH BROADWAY AND PROFESSIONAL TALENT, WE ALSO UNVEILED OUR MASTER TEACHER PROGRAM, TO PROVIDE SECONDARY EDUCATORS THE OPPORTUNITY TO GROW BY COMPLETING A VIGOROUS RUBRIC OF PROFESSIONAL DEVLEOPMENT. - OUR MEMBERS ARE THEATRE PEOPLE OF ALL AGES, FROM PRE-SCHOOL TO RETIREMENT, FROM EVERY CORNER OF VIRGINIA, IN OUR SIX DIVISIONS: COLLEGE & UNIVERSITY, COMMUNITY THEATRE, PROFESSIONAL THEATRE (AND THEATRE PROFESSIONALS), SECONDARY SCHOOLS, TECHNICAL THEATRE, AND THEATRE FOR YOUTH.- VIRGINIA THRIVES WHEN ITS THEATRES THRIVE. A VIBRANT THEATRE CULTURE SERVES TO RAISE UP OUR COMMUNITIES SEPARATELY AND TOGETHER AS A COMMONWEALTH, IN THE BEST DEFINITION OF THE WORD. IT IS THE HOPE OF VTA'S LEADERSHIP THAT IN COMING YEARS WE WILL BE ABLE TO EFFECT INCREASED VISIBILITY, DIALOGUE, DEVELOPMENT AND ADVOCACY, RESULTING IN UNIVERSAL APPRECIATION FOR THE INFLUENCE AND IMPACT THEATRE EXERTS ON OUR COMMONWEALTH. IF, AS WE ACHIEVE THESE GOALS: WE LISTEN, LEARN, GROW AND TEACH; WE CONNECT, DEVELOP, NURTURE, AND ADVOCATE; WE EMBRACE, LIFT UP, AND ENCOURAGE VIRGINIA'S WIDESPREAD COMMUNITY OF THEATRE FOLK.
