THE OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSES FOR WHICH AWI IS ORGANIZED, ARE: CONDUCT A TRADE ASSOCIATION TO PROMOTE THE PROGRESS AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORK INDUSTRY; PROMOTE THE USE OF ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORK THROUGH AN EDUCATIONAL SERVICE TO ARCHITECTS, OWNERS, BUILDERS, THE INDUSTRY, AND THE PUBLIC; IMPROVE METHODS OF MANUFACTURE, SHIPMENT, AND INSTALLATION OF ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORK; DEVELOP NEW TYPES AND USES FOR ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORK; ORIGINATE, COLLECT, AND DISTRIBUTE TECHNICAL, STATISTICAL AND GENERAL DATA AND INFORMATION ON MATTERS OF INTEREST TO MEMBERS OF THE ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORK INDUSTRY, ARCHITECTS, OWNERS, BUILDERS, AND THE PUBLIC; DEVELOP UNIFORM COST ACCOUNTING, ESTIMATING, DETAILING AND BILLING SYSTEMS, AND AVERAGE INDUSTRY COST COMPUTATIONS; ASSIST AND COOPERATE WITH PRIVATE OR GOVERNMENTAL BODIES ENGAGED IN FURTHERING THE FOREGOING PURPOSES; AND, GENERALLY, TO DO ALL THINGS APPROPRIATE FOR THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORK INDUSTRY.

SERVICES TO MEMBERS: AWI'S MEMBERSHIP DEPARTMENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR RECRUITING NEW MEMBERS, RETAINING EXISTING MEMBERS, SURVEYING AND DETERMINING MEMBER WANTS AND NEEDS AND PROVIDING A WHOLE HOST OF MEMBER COMMUNICATIONS AND BRAND AFFILIATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEMBERS.
EDUCATION AND NETWORKING: AWI'S EDUCATION AND NETWORKING OUTREACH FUNCTIONS LARGELY AS A JOINT EFFORT BETWEEN AWI VOLUNTEERS AND AWI PROFESSIONAL STAFF. THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE'S PRIMARY CHARGE IS TO DEVELOP AND DELIVER VALUABLE INDUSTRY SPECIFIC EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO AWI MEMBERS AND TO HOST AND PROMOTE NETWORKING BETWEEN AWI MANUFACTURING MEMBERS AND SUPPLIER MEMBERS. IN 2007, AWI WAS NAMED EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR BY THE WOODWORK MACHINERY MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION.
STANDARDS AND CERTIFICATION: SINCE 1961, AWI HAS CONTINUALLY PUBLISHED THE INDUSTRY'S PREMIER QUALITY STANDARDS FOR FINE ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORK. AWI MAINTAINS A VOLUNTEER INDUSTRY TECHNICAL COMMITTEE WHICH REVIEWS SUGGESTED CHANGES TO THE STANDARD. THE ARCHITECT AND DESIGN PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY REFERENCES THE AWI QUALITY STANDARD IN MOST EVERY COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS AND CONTRACT DOCUMENTS.
