NAFME'S MISSION IS TO ADVANCE MUSIC EDUCATION BY ENCOURAGING THE STUDY AND MAKING OF MUSIC BY ALL.
MEETINGS, CONFERENCES AND CONVENTION:NAFME MEETINGS AND CONVENTIONS ARE MOUNTED TO FURNISH INSERVICE AND PRESERVICE PROFESSONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR MUSIC EDUCATORS, TO ALLOW FOR THE EXCHANGE OF IDEAS AMONG MEMBERS AND OTHER TEACHERS, AND TO FACILITATE THE GROWTH OF KNOWLEDGE OF CENTRAL ISSUES TO MUSIC EDUCATION AMONG PROFESSIONALS. NAFME STAFF ENGAGE IN SITE VISITS, PLANNING MEETINGS, PROGRAMMING, AND CONTRACTORS ON-SITE EXECUTION OF ALL NATIONAL CONFERENCES AND LEADERSHIP MEETINGS.
CAPACITY BUILDING:ENSURE DATA-DRIVEN FISCAL PRACTICES AND DECISION MAKING TO ADVANCE OUR ASSOCIATION AND THE PROFESSION WE SERVE.- BUILD AND MAINTAIN RELATIONSHIPS AND TECHNOLOGICAL CAPACITY THAT ENABLE THE ASSOCIATION ANDSTATE MEAS, COMMITTEES, AND INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS TO ACCOMPLISH DIFFERENTIATED GOALS WITHINA UNIFIED NATIONAL STRUCTURE- INCREASE MEMBERSHIP IN EXISTING AND NEW CATEGORIES- DEVELOP NATIONAL AND STATE LEADERSHIP- ENSURE A FISCALLY SOUND ASSOCIATION- SECURE FUNDING TO CONDUCT NAFME PROJECTS- EXEMPLIFY OUR MISSION, VISION, AND VALUES IN ALL PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS- EMPOWER SOCIETIES, COUNCILS, COMMITTEES, AND MEMBERS TO ACHIEVE THE ASSOCIATION'S MISSION, VISION AND VALUES

TEACHING MUSIC IS PUBLISHED IN AUGUST, OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, JANUARY, FEBRUARY, AND APRIL EACH YEAR. THE MAGAZINES DEAL WITH ALL ASPECTS OF MUSIC AND MUSIC EDUCATION FOR THE CLASSROOM, ELEMENTARY THROUGH THE UNIVERSITY LEVEL. MUSIC EDUCATORS JOURNAL IS A PEER-REVIEWED PUBLICATION; TEACHING MUSIC FOCUSES ON PRACTICAL TEACHING INFORMATION AND NEWS ABOUT THE FIELD.RESEARCH PUBLICATIONSTHIS CONSISTS OF TWO SCHOLARLY JOURNAL PUBLICATIONS: UPDATE AND JOURNAL OF RESEARCH AND MUSIC EDUCATION (JRME). UPDATE IS AN ONLINE PUBLICATION ADDRESSING APPLICATIONS OF RESEARCH IN MUSIC EDUCATION. THE JRME PUBLISHES IN PRINT AND ON-LINE THE RESULTS OF RESEARCH IN MUSIC EDUCATION, MUSIC HISTORY, MUSIC PERCEPTION, AND MUSIC SOCIOLOGY.
