Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION IS TO GIVE YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE RICHMOND VIRGINIA METROPOLITAN AREA THE CHANCE TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES THROUGH ART AND TO SHARE THEIR STORIES WITH OTHERS
In 2019 ART 180 conducted 47 programs in creative expression for 440 eight-to-18 year olds led by more than 75 artists. We engaged more than 30 partners who work with a variety of young people in challenging circumstances to run multi-week, after-school arts programs. We delivered 957 program hours across our three program categories: 1) Community-based programs, in partnership with schools and youth-serving organizations; 2) teen program at Atlas, our youth art center and gallery; and 3) Performing Statistics, which spun off to a separate entity as of July 2019. Over four successful years, partnering with Legal Aid Justice Center and later RISE for Youth, this program helped close a youth prison, change policies on school suspensions and expulsions, and advocate for alternatives to incarceration.
