Organizations Filed Purposes: THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM OF RICHMOND, A NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, EXISTS TO INSPIRE GROWTH IN ALL CHILDREN BY ENGAGING FAMILIES IN LEARNING THROUGH PLAY.

MUSEUM EXPERIENCE: DURING FISCAL YEAR 2019-2020, THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM WELCOMED MORE THAN 245,450 VISITORS AT OUR FOUR LOCATIONS - DOWNTOWN, CHESTERFIELD, FREDERICKSBURG, AND SHORT PUMP. BECAUSE OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT, THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM WAS ABLE TO DISTRIBUTE 30,285 BOOKS TO CHILDREN FROM LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS; EDUCATE NEARLY 18,000 SCHOOL PROGRAM GUESTS DURING FIELD TRIPS; AND WELCOMED NEARLY 500 OF OUR 5,000+ MEMBER FAMILIES TO ENGAGE IN LEARNING THROUGH PLAY WITH SCHOLARSHIP-SUPPORTED MEMBERSHIPS. ONCE THE PANDEMIC FORCED CLOSURE IN MID-MARCH, THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM WAS ABLE TO PIVOT QUICKLY TO ENGAGE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES ONLINE THROUGH BLOG AND VIDEO RESOURCES TO CONTINUE OUR MISSION.

EDUCATION AND OUTREACH: PLAY IS A CRITICAL ELEMENT TO ENCOURAGE HEALTHY DEVELOPMENT IN CHILDREN, FOSTERING SKILLS THAT WILL STAY WITH THEM WELL INTO ADOLESCENCE AND ADULTHOOD. AT THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM, CHILDREN'S GROWTH IS INSPIRED BY ENGAGING FAMILIES IN THE POWER OF PLAY, KNOWING THAT EVERYONE CAN LEARN MORE - AND DEVELOP MORE RAPIDLY - WHEN FAMILIES PLAY TOGETHER. OUR EXHIBITS AND EXPERIENCES FUEL CHILDREN'S PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS, MOTOR DEVELOPMENT SKILLS, LANGUAGE SKILLS, SPATIAL SKILLS AND COORDINATION, COMMUNICATION AND NEGOTIATION SKILLS, CREATIVE SKILLS, AND PRE-READING AND READING COMPREHENSION SKILLS.

MUSEUM SHOP: THE MUSEUM SHOP CARRIES EDUCATIONAL TOYS, GAMES, ART AND CRAFT SUPPLIES MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, INTRIGUING BOOKS, AND HANDS-ON PROJECTS THAT SUPPORT CHILDREN'S LEARNING EXPERIENCE.
