THE MISSION OF THE AGENCY IS "TO EMPOWER SURVIVORS OF BRAIN INJURY TO REGAIN AND MAINTAIN INDEPENDENCE THROUGH INNOVATIVE, OUTCOMES-BASED SERVICES".
CBIS PROVIDES AN ARRAY OF FULLY ACCREDITED, INTENSIVE COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES TO SURVIVORS OF BRAIN INJURY IN THE RICHMOND AND TIDEWATER AREAS OF VIRGINIA. DURING FY20, CBIS SERVED OVER 315 SURVIVORS OF BRAIN INJURY.
COMMUNITY BRAIN INJURY SERVICES ("THE AGENCY") PROVIDES AN ARRAY OF INTENSIVE COMMUNITY BASED SAFETY NET SERVICES TO SURVIVORS OF ACQUIRED/TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY IN THE METRO RICHMOND AND VIRGINIA PENINSULA GEOGRAPHIC AREAS. IN THE METRO RICHMOND AREA, CBIS OPERATES A CLUBHOUSE MODEL VOCATIONAL DAY PROGRAM, THE MILL HOUSE, AND A COMMUNITY BASED CASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM. IN THE VIRGINIA PENINSULA AREA, CBIS OPERATES A CLUBHOUSE MODEL VOCATIONAL DAY PROGRAM, THE DENBIGH HOUSE, AND CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES. CBIS PROGRAMS ARE THE PRIMARY DEDICATED COMMUNITY SERVICES AVAILABLE TO SURVIVORS IN BOTH GEOGRAPHIC AREAS. DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2020, THE AGENCY PROVIDED CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES TO 133 AND 41 INDIVIDUAL SURVIVORS OF ACQUIRED OR TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURIES IN THE METRO RICHMOND AND VIRGINIA PENINSULA GEOGRAPHIC REGIONS, RESPECTIVELY. THE INDIVIDUALS REFERRED TO ABOVE WERE PROVIDED VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION, INDEPENDENT LIVING, CASE MANAGEMENT AND OTHER COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES. THE MILL HOUSE HAD AN AVERAGE DAILY CENSUS OF 11 MEMBERS PER DAY AND SERVED 87 INDIVIDUALS DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2020. THE DENBIGH HOUSE HAD AN AVERAGE DAILY CENSUS OF 9 MEMBERS PER DAY AND SERVED 59 INDIVIDUALS DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2020. APPROXIMATELY 3,259 DAYS OF PROFESSIONAL CARE WERE PROVIDED TO THE AFOREMENTIONED INDIVIDUALS DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2020. THE AGENCY'S CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES AND CLUBHOUSE ATTENDANCE WERE BOTH REDUCED COMPARED TO FISCAL 2019 DUE TO COVID-19 (WHICH WAS DECLARED A PANDEMIC IN MARCH 2020). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE AGENCY IS THE GRATEFUL RECIPIENT OF INVALUABLE SERVICES FROM VOLUNTEERS WHO PROVIDE PROGRAM SERVICE AT THE MILL HOUSE AND AT THE DENBIGH HOUSE.
THE AGENCY ALSO PROVIDED APPROXIMATELY 90 OUTREACH, EDUCATIONAL, PUBLIC AWARENESS, AND ADVOCACY ACTIVITIES DURING THE PAST FISCAL YEAR THAT COLLECTIVELY REACHED MORE THAN 2,200 PERSONS.
