TO AWAKEN AND UPLIFT THE HUMAN SPIRIT, BOTH FOR AUDIENCES AND ARTISTS. WE ARE DEDICATED TO THE PROMOTION, PRESERVATION AND CONTINUING EVOLUTION OF THE ART FORM OF BALLET ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH PERFORMANCES BY PROFESSIONAL AND STUDENT DANCERS, THE OPERATION OF A DANCE SCHOOL, AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT THROUGH DANCE.
PRODUCTION AND TOURS RICHMOND BALLET IS ONE OF VIRGINIA'S FINEST ART AND DANCE EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS AND HAS GAINED NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL ACCLAIM AS A PREMIER DANCE ORGANIZATION. THIS YEAR, OVER 30,000 PEOPLE IN AND AROUND THE RICHMOND, VA AREA WERE ENTERTAINED BY TWO REPERTORY PRODUCTIONS AS WELL AS FULL LENGTH PRODUCTIONS OF "THE NUTCRACKER AND "SWAN LAKE." TWO ADDITIONAL REPERTORY PRODUCTIONS WERE POSTPONED DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. RICHMOND BALLET ALSO COMPLETED TOURS TO VARIOUS VIRGINIA SCHOOLS AND LOCALITIES THROUGHOUT THE COMMONWEALTH, REACHING OVER 20,000 STUDENTS.
DANCE SCHOOL THE SCHOOL OF RICHMOND BALLET PROVIDES DANCE CLASSES (BALLET, JAZZ, MODERN, THEATRE DANCE, AND CHARACTER) FOR OVER 900 STUDENTS AGE 3 TO ADULT 7 DAYS A WEEK. THE SCHOOL ALSO PROVIDES ADVANCED TRAINING FOR QUALIFIED STUDENTS WHO PERFORM WITH THE BALLET'S PROFESSIONAL DANCE TROUPE.
MIM IS RICHMOND BALLET'S PRIMARY COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM, REACHING FOURTH-GRADERS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. IT FEATURES AN ENGAGING, MOVEMENT-BASED CURRICULUM TAUGHT BY PROFESSIONAL TEACHING ARTISTS AND MUSICIANS IN 27 SCHOOLS IN RICHMOND, CHARLOTTESVILLE, PORTSMOUTH, NORFOLK, AND ISRAEL. THE MIM PROGRAM OFFERS REGULAR EXPOSURE TO THE ARTS FOR STUDENTS, MANY OF WHOM WOULD NOT OTHERWISE HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO TAKE DANCE CLASS OR PERFORM FOR AN AUDIENCE. 53% OF PARTICIPANTS ATTEND A TITLE I SCHOOL. THROUGHOUT THE EXPERIENCE, MIM STUDENTS WORK TOWARD PERFORMING AN ORIGINAL PRODUCTION PRESENTED FOR A LIVE AUDIENCE. SINCE ITS INCEPTION, MIM REMAINS THE ONLY PROGRAM OF ITS KIND IN THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA.
