Organizations Filed Purposes: The Storefront for Community Design connects community members to design tools and resources that build community capacity and engage the next generation of designers. Since 2011, Storefront has provided low-cost design and planning assistance to community members, local businesses, organizations, and neighborhoods. Over the years, our services have expanded to include project-based learning opportunities for youth and community engagement initiatives that strenghten our neighborhoods.

Storefront for Community Design connects community members to design tools and resources that build community capacity and engage the next generation of designers.

In 2020, Storefront for Community Design engaged 25 volunteers to provide pro bono or low-cost design assistance, design education, and community engagement to individuals, non-profit organizations, and businesses in the City of Richmond. Volunteers consisted of graphic designers, fashion designers, architects, landscape architects, interior designers, and graduate and undergraduate unpaid interns. Six Points Innovation Center (6PCI) continued to serve an average of 35 High School students with after school programming connecting them to resources building capacity academically and in the workforce. We worked with the Valentine Museum and mOb studio to develop an exhibit, Monument Avenue: General Demotion/General Devotion, that was on display for 10 months for all Richmond residents to view. In addition, we worked with 25 mOb studio students over two semesters and served more worth of work creating design deliverables for non-profit, small business and resident community collaborators around the Richmond region. clean ups and tours of the City to introduce them to the processes of city government, planning, and design.
