Organizations Filed Purposes: THE COUNCIL OF COMMUNITY SERVICES PROVIDES LEADERSHIP FOR ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS IN THE AREAS OF PLANNING, INFORMATION, AND REFERRAL SERVICES TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN OUR COMMUNITIES.

THE CHILD AND ADULT CARE FOOD PROGRAM RECEIVES VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH FUNDS, WHICH FLOW-THROUGH TO HOME CARE PROVIDERS FOR SERVING NUTRITIOUS MEALS TO QUALIFYING CHILDREN. MOST OF THE CHILDREN WHO BENFIT FROM THIS PROGRAM ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 5. RESEARCH INDICATES THAT 90% OF BRAIN DEVELOPMENT OCCURS BEFORE AGE FIVE AND GOOD NUTRITION IS CRITICAL TO BRAIN DEVELOPMENT. OVER 1,500 CHILDREN BENEFIT FROM THIS PROGRAM EACH YEAR.

THE DROP-IN CENTER PROVIDES A BROAD SPECTRUM OF PREVENTION AND CARE SERVICES IN ROANOKE, DANVILLE AND MARION,THROUGH STATE AND FEDERAL FUNDS VIA THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH. PREVENTION FUNDS (COMMUNITY HIV TESTING PROGRAM; COMPREHENSIVE HIV RESOURCE AND LINKAGES FOR INMATES; MEN WHO HAVE SEX WITH MEN PREVENTION; AIDS SERVICES AND EDUCATION; PREVENTION FOR POSITIVES) PROVIDES HIV/HCV TESTING, COUNSELING, HARM REDUCTION EDUCATION, AND NAVIGATION SERVICES TO OVER 1,500 CLIENTS. CARE OR RYAN WHITE PART B FUNDS PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING SERVICES TO OVER 750 CLIENTS; THREE SATELLITE OFFICES; DIRECT SERVICES, INCLUDING MEDICAL AND NON-MEDICAL CASE MANAGEMENT, FOOD PANTRY SERVICES, LINKAGE TO MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION AND HOUSING; ACT AS A THIRD-PARTY PAYER OF RYAN WHITE PART B CLIENTS MEDICAL/DENTAL PAYMENTS AND IRS ACA PENALTY PAYMENTS; AND SERVES THE REGIONAL LEAD FOR SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA QUALITY SERVICES.

THE 2-1-1 VIRGINIA SERVICE RECEIVES FEDERAL FUNDS VIA THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES TO ACT AS THE SOLE SOURCE CONTRACTOR FOR THE STATEWIDE 2-1-1 SYSTEM. 2-1-1 IS AN EASY TO REMEMBER PHONE NUMBER THAT IS STAFFED BY TRAINED COMMUNITY RESOURCE SPECIALISTS WHO ARE AVAILABLE 24 HOURS A DAY 7 DAYS A WEEK TO RESIDENTS OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA LOOKING FOR INFORMATION AND REFERRALS TO HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES. IN 2019, 2-1-1 VIRGINIA RESPONDED TO OVER 114,000 REQUESTS FOR ASSISTANCE.
