Organizations Filed Purposes: THE STAUNTON PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, A NONPROFIT PERFORMING ARTS INNOVATOR AND STEWARD OF TWO HISTORIC THEATRICAL VENUES, PRESENTS ACCESSIBLE ARTS, ENTERTAINMENT, CULTURAL, CIVIC AND EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES TO PATRONS OF ALL AGES, ABILITIES AND INTERESTS AND ENHANCES THE QUALITY-OF-LIFE AND ECONOMIC VITALITY OF THE REGION.

THROUGH COMMUNITY, CITY, STATE, AND NATIONAL SUPPORT THE SPACE WILL CREATE A MID-SIZE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER AS A PREMIER MUSIC, DRAMA AND DANCE VENUE, MULTI-PURPOSE SPACE AND ARTS EDUCATION FACILITY IN THE CENTRAL SHENANDOAH VALLEY REGION. THE FOOTPRINT OF THIS CENTER'S COMPLEX CONSISTS OF TWO LANDMARK STRUCTURES, THE CURRENTLY OPERATING DIXIE THEATRE AND THE ART THEATRE, NOW KNOWN AS THE ARCADIA BUILDING. BETWEEN THE TWO, THEY HAVE PROVIDED THE COMMUNITY WITH OVER 200 YEARS OF CINEMA AND LIVE ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT. ENHANCING THE PRESERVATION OF HISTORIC DOWNTOWN STAUNTON, THE DIXIE WILL BE RETURNED TO ITS 1936 ART MODERNE GRANDEUR AS DESIGNED BY RENOWNED NEW YORK ARCHITECT JOHN EBERSON, OFTEN REFERRED TO AS THE "DEAN OF AMERICAN THEATRE ARCHITECTS." PRELIMINARY DESIGNS, COMPLETED IN 2012 BY THE ARCHITECTURAL FIRM OF WESTLAKE REED LESKOSKY (WRL), BLEND TOGETHER TWO DISTINCT ERAS AND STYLES TO FORM A STUNNING COMPLEX AT THE CORNER OF E. BEVERLEY AND MARKET STREETS. LOCATED AT THE CULTURAL HUB OF HISTORIC DOWNTOWN STAUNTON, THESE ENTERTAINMENT ICONS ARE POISED FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION EFFORTS AND VISIONARY ADAPTIVE REUSE. WRL IS ONE OF THE COUNTRY'S OLDEST ARCHITECTURAL FIRMS, FOUNDED IN 1905. THE FIRM CONTINUES THE QUEST FOR INNOVATION AS A NATIONALLY KNOWN DESIGN PRACTICE IN THE AREAS OF PERFORMING AND CULTURAL ARTS AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION AND WORKING WITH SIGNIFICANT CLIENTS ACROSS A DIVERSE GEOGRAPHIC BASE THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. IT IS RANKED 6 AMONG AMERICAN DESIGN FIRMS IN THE 2012 ARCHITECT 50 LIST AND RANKED 1 FOR SUSTAINABILITY. NEXT STEPS CALL FOR THE FORMATION OF AN ACTION-ORIENTED CONSORTIUM. BY INVITING AND INVOLVING THE COMMUNITY, CIVIC LEADERS, TICKET BUYERS, PHILANTHROPIC SUPPORTERS, PERFORMERS, ARTS GROUPS AND EDUCATORS WE CAN TOGETHER DISCOVER AND ADOPT A SUSTAINABLE AND STAKEHOLDER-DRIVEN MASTER PLAN. WHILE WORKING ON THE CAPITAL NEEDS PLAN THAT WILL RESTORE AND CREATE THE CENTER COMPLEX, THE SPACE HAS RENEWED ITS CHARTERED MISSION THAT INCLUDES A COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT THROUGH ARTS AND EDUCATION INITIATIVES AS WELL AS CREATING AN EXTRAORDINARY COMPLEX FOR THE ARTS. WE ARE COMMITTED TO FOSTERING AND DEVELOPING OUR LOCAL AND REGIONAL ARTISTRY AND DEVELOPING CREATIVE CAPITAL IN THE MINDS OF OUR YOUNG PEOPLE. WE ARE DEDICATED TO PROVIDING DIVERSE AND ACCESSIBLE ARTS AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE REGION.
