Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO UNDERSTAND AND PROTECT CHIMPANZEES, OTHER APES, AND THEIR HABITATS, AND TO WORK TOWARDS CREATING AN INFORMED AND COMPASSIONATE CRITICAL MASS OF PEOPLE WHO WILL HELP TO CREATE A BETTER WORLD FOR PEOPLE, OTHER ANIMALS, AND OUR SHARED ENVIRONMENT.
SEE PART III, LINE 1.
ANIMAL WELFARE: THE JANE GOODALL INSTITUTE (JGI) ENSURES THE WELFARE OF CHIMPANZEES AND OTHER ANIMALS THROUGH BEST-IN-CLASS REHABILITATION AND SANCTUARY CARE/STANDARDS INCLUDING OUR TCHIMPOUNGA CHIMPANZEE REHABILITATION CENTER, ONE OF THE LARGEST CHIMPANZEE SANCTUARIES IN AFRICA, AND FACILITIES AROUND THE WORLD, GLOBAL ADVOCACY, AND OUR UNIQUE TRIANGLE APPROACH OF WORK WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT, EDUCATION, AND SANCTUARY CARE. WILDLIFE CONSERVATION: TO ENSURE THE CONSERVATION OF CHIMPANZEES, OTHER APES AND ANIMALS IN THE WILD AND THEIR HABITATS, JGI USES OUR INNOVATIVE 'TACARE' APPROACH, PIONEERED BY DR. GOODALL, COMBINED WITH THE OPEN STANDARDS FOR THE PRACTICE OF CONSERVATION TO IDENTIFY AND IMPLEMENT STRATEGIES AND ACTIONS THAT ELIMINATE THE MOST CRITICAL THREATS TO SPECIES SURVIVAL SUCH AS: HABITAT LOSS AND FRAGMENTATION, ILLEGAL COMMERCIAL HUNTING AND TRADE, AND DISEASE TRANSMISSION.THESE STRATEGIES INCLUDE CONSERVATION ACTION PLANNING, COMMUNITY-MAPPING, AND LAND-USE PLANNING, LAW ENFORCEMENT, PROTECTED AREA AND FOREST MANAGEMENT, SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS, FAMILY PLANNING, EDUCATION, HEALTH AND GENDER EQUITY, AS WELL AS MICRO-CREDIT AND ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
EDUCATION: JGI'S ROOTS & SHOOTS YOUTH PROGRAM PROVIDES THE RESOURCES TO ENCOURAGE AND MOTIVATE YOUNG PEOPLE TO TAKE ACTION ON ISSUES THAT MATTER TO THEM THROUGH SERVICE PROJECTS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES, IMPROVING WELLBEING FOR PEOPLE, OTHER ANIMALS, AND THE ENVIRONMENT WE SHARE. TODAY, THE TOOLS AND SUPPORT OFFERED THROUGH ROOTS & SHOOTS EMPOWER YOUTH IN ALL 50 STATES AND OVER 65 COUNTRIES TO USE THEIR VOICES AND IDEAS TO ADDRESS ESSENTIAL ISSUES, GROWING COMPASSIONATE CHANGEMAKERS WHO WILL MAKE HOLISTIC DECISIONS FOR A SUSTAINABLE WORLD. THROUGH JANE'S HOPEFUL MESSAGE AND THE ROOTS & SHOOTS MODEL, YOUTH ARE ENCOURAGED TO PUT THEIR IDEAS INTO ACTION, DEMONSTRATING THE POWER OF COLLECTIVE INDIVIDUAL IMPACT. SINCE 1991, MILLIONS OF STUDENTS HAVE TAKEN ON THE CHALLENGE OF MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE. RESEARCH: DR. GOODALL'S OBSERVATION IN 1960 THAT CHIMPANZEES MAKE AND USE TOOLS, AS WELL AS HER OVERALL RESEARCH ON WILD CHIMPANZEES IN GOMBE, TANZANIA, SHOOK THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE SCIENTIFIC WORLD AND CHANGED OUR UNDERSTANDING OF NON-HUMAN ANIMALS AND OURSELVES FOREVER. FROM THE 1960S TO TODAY, GOMBE'S RESEARCH HAS CONTINUED AND EVOLVED UNINTERRUPTED AS THE LONGEST-RUNNING WILD CHIMPANZEE STUDY IN THE WORLD. TODAY, JGI SCIENCE COMBINES BASIC AND APPLIED RESEARCH TO CONTINUE TO UNLOCK THE SECRETS OF PRIMATE BEHAVIOUR AND HUMAN EVOLUTION AND TO EXPLORE, INNOVATE AND DISCOVER NEW SOLUTIONS TO MAXIMIZE OUR CONSERVATION IMPACT. OUR RESEARCH STRATEGY - ENABLED BY ADVANCED GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGIES, MOBILE, AND CLOUD COMPUTING, CITIZEN SCIENCE, AND CROWD-SOURCED DATA FROM THE GROUND - HAS EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MONITORING HABITAT HEALTH, MAPPING DISTRIBUTION OF CHIMPANZEES AND OTHER GREAT APES ACROSS THEIR RANGE IN AFRICA, OBSERVING AND ANALYZING HUMAN LAND USE CHANGE ON CRITICAL HABITATS TO INFORM CONSERVATION ACTIONS AND MANAGEMENT DECISIONS AND MORE.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, POLICY & ADVOCACY JGI'S ROOTS & SHOOTS YOUTH PROGRAM PROVIDES THE RESOURCES TO ENCOURAGE AND MOTIVATE YOUNG PEOPLE TO TAKE ACTION ON ISSUES THAT MATTER TO THEM THROUGH SERVICE PROJECTS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES, IMPROVING WELLBEING FOR PEOPLE, OTHER ANIMALS, AND THE ENVIRONMENT WE SHARE.
