QUALITY EDUCATION AND GOOD HEALTH: AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE FIFTH YEAR OF OUR FIVE-YEAR COMMUNITY COMMITMENT, UNITED WAY NCA PROVIDED ACADEMIC AND WRAPAROUND SERVICES TO 14,567 LOW-TO-MODERATE INCOME MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS TO HELP THEM TRANSITION TO HIGH SCHOOL AND PERFORM AT GRADE LEVEL THROUGHOUT OUR 13 TITLE I COMMUNITY SCHOOLS ACROSS THE WASHINGTON METROPOLITAN REGION. ALSO, UNITED WAY NCA SERVED 23,176 STUDENTS AND FAMILIES THROUGH AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO HEALTH AND WELLNESS. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT STUDENTS WHO ARE WELL-NOURISHED AND HEALTHY HAVE BETTER ATTENDANCE, IMPROVED BEHAVIOR, AND BETTER ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE. ... CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O.ALSO, IN RESPONSE TO OUR BELIEF THAT IN ORDER FOR A COMMUNITY TO THRIVE, ITS RESIDENTS MUST BE HEALTHY: OVER 27,000 STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES SPENT TIME IN STRUCTURED EXERCISE AND PLAY DURING OUR FIVE-YEAR COMMUNITY COMMITMENT; AND HAVE ENSURED THAT OUR COMMUNITY HAS ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOOD AND PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES, INCLUDING MENTAL HEALTH CARE TO VULNERABLE POPULATIONS.IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, UNITED WAY NCA ALSO MANAGED EDUCATION RELATED PROGRAMS WHICH PROVIDED CHILDREN, YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES WITH EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES, SAFE AND ENRICHING CENTERS FOR LEARNING IN AND OUT OF SCHOOL, AND OTHER TRAINING, RECREATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL SERVICES. THE FOURTH YEAR OF THIS PARTNERSHIP ENABLED 87 NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO DELIVER EDUCATION RELATED PROGRAMS FOR THE BENEFIT OF 30,395 CHILDREN IN WASHINGTON DC.
FINANCIAL STABILITY, BASIC NEEDS, AND VETERANS: AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE FIFTH YEAR OF OUR FIVE-YEAR COMMUNITY COMMITMENT, OVER 100,000 RESIDENTS RECEIVED A VARIETY OF FINANCIAL STABILITY SERVICES RANGING FROM FREE TAX PREPARATION, FINANCIAL WORKSHOPS, AND HOUSING COUNSELING THAT ARE AIMED AT HELPING OUR REGION'S RESIDENTS GET ON THE PATHWAY TO A STRONGER FINANCIAL FUTURE. THROUGH ITS FREE TAX PREPARATION SERVICES, UNITED WAY NCA RESULTED IN $103.5 MILLION IN TAX REFUNDS ALLOWING AREA RESIDENTS TO PLAN, SAVE AND GET AHEAD. ADDITIONALLY, INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN NEED WERE CONNECTED WITH LOCAL RESOURCES AND ASSISTANCE THROUGH OUR 2-1-1 NON-EMERGENCY TELEPHONE NUMBER TO ACCESS BASIC NEEDS SUPPORT. ...
