Organizations Filed Purposes: THE SANDLER CENTER FOUNDATION'S MISSION IS TO EDUCATE, INSPIRE, ENRICH AND BUILD OUR COMMUNITY, STRENGTHEN LOCAL ARTS ORGANIZATIONS, AND INSTILL AN APPRECIATION OF THE ARTS IN FUTURE GENERATIONS THROUGH THE UNDERWRITING OF WORLD-CLASS PERFORMANCES AT THE SANDLER CENTER.

THE SANDLER CENTER FOUNDATION CONTINUED ITS MISSION TO PROVIDE PROGRAMMING OPPORTUNITIES THAT EDUCATE, INSPIRE AND ENRICH THE COMMUNITY. FOR THE 2018-2019 PROGRAM YEAR, THE FOUNDATION EXPANDED ITS EDUCATION PROGRAM TO INCLUDE A THEATRICAL LIGHTEING STEAM EXHIBIT. THIS EXHIBIT WAS PREMIERED AT THE STEM LEARNING DAY HOSTED BY THE NAVY AT THE NAS OCEANA AIR SHOW. A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NAVY WAS ESTABLISHED AND INCLUDED SERVING GOLD STAR FAMILIES AND THE EXCEPTIONAL FAMILY MEMBER PROGRAM. THE FOUNDATION HOSTED ITS FIRST SENSORY-FRIENDLY PRODUCTION FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AND THEIR FAMILIES AND/OR CARETAKERS. IT WAS WELL-RECEIVED AND A PROGRAM THAT IS NEEDED IN THE COMMUNITY. THE INAUGURAL GIVING CIRCLE, COMPRISED OF MEMBERS WHO POOL POOL THEIR MONEY TOGETHER, AWARD GRANTS TO SUPPORT PROGRAMS/PROJECTS OF SANDLER CENTER RESIDENT COMPANIES AND TO UNDERWRITE A WORLD-CLASS PERFORMANCE THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH VIRGINIA ARTS FESTIVAL.

EDUCATION PROGRAM: THIS PROGRAM SERVES STUDENTS IN GRADE PRE-K THROUGH 8TH. IN 2018-2019, THE PROGRAM SERVED 20,000 STUDENTS THROUGH EDUCATIONAL MATINEES AND A STEAM EXHIBIT. ABOUT 80% OF STUDENTS WHO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE A MATINEE RECEIVED FULL FUNDING. FUNDING IS PROVIDED FOR AT-RISK STUDENTS WHO ATTEND TITLE I SCHOOLS. ALL EDUCATIONAL MATINEES HAVE AREA STUDENTS AND TEACHERS IN MIND AND ARE ALIGNED WITH THE VIRGINIA STANDARDS OF LEARNING. THE FOUNDATION PARTNERED WITH THE NAVY TO SERVE ALL 5TH GRADE VIRGINIA BEACH STUDENTS AND SELECT CHESAPEAKE STUDENTS AT THE NAS OCEANA STEM LEARNING DAY. THE FOUNDATION WAS THE ONLY GROUP TO REPRESENT THE ARTS. THE STEAM EXHIBIT (ADD THE A FOR ARTS) WAS AN INTERACTIVE, HANDS-ON THEATRICAL LIGHT DISPLAY.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH: THE FOUNDATION COLLABORATES WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS, SUPPORTS SANDLER CENTER RESIDENT COMPANIES AND OVERSEES THE LOCAL HEROES PROGRAM AND THE SPECIAL NEEDS OUTREACH. ALL EFFORTS GO TOWARD FULFILLING THE FOUNDATION'S MISSION TO EDUCATE, INSPIRE AND ENRICH. IN 2018-2019, THE FOUNDATION HOSTED ITS FIRST SENSORY-FRIENDLY PERFORMANCE. THESE PERFORMANCES ARE DESIGNED TO CREATE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH SENSORY-INPUT DISORDERS, AUTISM, OR OTHER DEVELOPMENTAL OR COGNITIVE DISABILITIES AND THEIR FAMILIES OR CAREGIVER TO EXPERIENCE THE PERFORMING ARTS IN A WELCOMING AND UNDERSTANDING ENVIRONMENT. THESE PERFORMANCES ARE FULLY FUNDED THROUGH THE SANDLER CENTER FOUNDATION AND ITS GENEROUS DONORS.
