Organizations Filed Purposes:
Our mission is to train our members for the duties of fire prevention/suppression and emergency medical response, and to serve the community when called by dispatch with skill and diplomacy.
Washington Volunteer Fire & Rescue is a 100% volunteer organization that provides two medic units, 24/7, for Rappahannock County. This past year we answered 351 EMS calls dealing with minor injuries to major trauma, general illness to cardiac arrest and strokes. We take pride in our service and assure that our equipment and training is the best we can provide.
WF&R has a fleet of an Engine, a Tanker, an Attack Quick Response vehicle, and a Brush truck. All apparatus are equipped with Compressed Air Form Systems that allow the extension of water usage three-fold. This system is imperative for our rural county without fire hydrants. Our firefighting includes wildland due to the rural/woodland nature of the county. Firefighters are dual trained in Wildland and Structural Firefighting that resulted in 96 fire calls in 2020.
Community service activities reduced for 2020 due to COVID-19. A socially distanced visit with an ambulance and fire engine was made to the Child Care Learning Center. The Annual Easter Egg hunt was cancelled after some of the supplies were purchased. Those supplies were given to the local lunch program provided to underprivileged students.
