Organizations Filed Purposes: MISSION STATEMENT OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY WITH THE INFORMATION NEEDED TO DRIVE THOUGHTFUL, SCIENCE-BASED CONSERVATION, TO EDUCATE AND TRAIN THE NEXT GENERATION OF CONSERVATION SCIENTISTS, AND TO MAKE LASTING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE NATURAL WORLD THROUGH CRITICAL THINKING, INNOVATION, AND GROUND-BREAKING RESEARCH ON BIRDS. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT CCB THE CENTER FOR CONSERVATION BIOLOGY INC (CCB INC) IS A SUPPORTING ORGANIZATION FOR THE ACADEMIC INSTITUTION KNOWN AS THE CENTER FOR CONSERVATION BIOLOGY AT THE COLLEGE OF WILLIAM AND MARY AND THE VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY. CCB INC BUILDS NEEDED FUNDS TO SUPPORT INSTITUTIONAL NEEDS, STUDENT RESEARCH, AND CURRENT RESEARCH PROGRAM NEEDS AT CCB. ALL FUNDS COLLECTED BY CCB INC. ARE USED TO DIRECTLY SUPPORT RESEARCH, CONSERVATION AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS PRIMARILY MANAGED THROUGH THE ACADEMIC ORGANIZATION.

RESEARCH PROGRAMS: CCB RESEARCH PROJECTS SUPPORT THE BROADER CONSERVATION COMMUNITY ON A DAILY BASIS. RESEARCH FINDINGS AND PRODUCTS ARE USED TO DEVELOP WILDLIFE POLICY, TO IMPLEMENT MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES, TO PROTECT IMPERILED SPECIES AND TO MANAGE AT-RISK POPULATIONS. RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES DURING 2019 HAVE MANAGED AN ENDANGERED WOODPECKER POPULATION, HAVE MANAGED A THREATENED FALCON POPULATION, HAVE MONITORED THE RECOVERING BALD EAGLE POPULATION, HAVE SURVEYED A THREATENED MARSH BIRD SPECIES, HAVE WORKED WITH A SPECIES ENDEMIC TO THE ATLANTIC DUNE SYSTEM, HAVE RESURVEYED A DECLINING SHOREBIRD WITHIN THE MID-ATLANTIC AND HAVE REVEALED NEW ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION THAT IS RELEVANT TO THE CONSERVATION OF SEVERAL SPECIES ALONG THE ATLANTIC COAST. SINCE THE FALL OF 1992, CCB HAS COMPLETED 1000+ PROJECTS THROUGHOUT THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE FOCUSED ON MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE FOR BIRDS AND PEOPLE.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS: CCB'S EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOCUS ON UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE TRAINING, PUBLIC OUTREACH AND PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT AND CITIZEN LEARNING. SINCE THE FALL OF 1992, CCB HAS INVOLVED HUNDREDS OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN DIRECT RESEARCH. IN 2019, CCB BIOLOGISTS MADE MORE THAN 20 PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS TO PUBLIC AND RESEARCH AUDIENCES. THESE PRESENTATIONS HAVE COVERED A DIVERSE RANGE OF TOPICS THAT PROVIDE TIMELY INFORMATION TO MOVE CONSERVATION AWARENESS FORWARD. WE HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO MORE THAN 30 MEDIA STORIES FOCUSED ON PUBLIC OUTREACH ON SENSITIVE CONSERVATION TOPICS. WE HAVE PUBLISHED SEVERAL ARTICLES WITHIN SCIENTIFIC JOURNALS THAT HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH COMMUNITIES' UNDERSTANDING OF SPECIES OF CONSERVATION CONCERN, PUBLIC POLICY, AND LAND-USE. WE PRODUCE AQUARTERLY ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER THAT IS DISTRIBUTED TO MORE THAN 10,500 INDIVIDUALS AND A PRINTED ANNUAL REPORT THAT IS MAILED TO MORE THAN 950 INDIVIDUALS. DURING 2019 WE SUPPORTED TWO UNDERGRADUATE INTERNS WHO WORKED ON CONSERVATION PROJECTS.

INFORMATION/ADVISORY SERVICES: CCB HAS PROVIDED THOUSANDS OF PRO BONO SERVICES TO GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, NGOS, AND CORPORATE PARTNERS FOCUSED ON SPECIES CONSERVATION. THE VIRGINIA BALD EAGLE NEST LOCATOR ALONE RECEIVES MORE THAN 30,000 VISITS PER YEAR AS PART OF THE PERMITTING PROCESS RELATED TO EAGLE MANAGEMENT. CCB BIOLOGISTS FIELD DOZENS OF PHONE CALLS, MESSAGES, AND MEETINGS PER WEEK THAT ARE INTENDED TO ASSIST GOVERNMENT AGENCIES IN MAKING APPROPRIATE CONSERVATION DECISIONS. DURING 2019 WE MADE SERVERAL OUT OF STATE TRIPS TO ASSIST WITH CONSERVATION MEETINGS.
