ADMISSIONS - THE MUSEUM OFFERS ENRICHING, EXPERIENTIAL-BASED EDUCATION TO 148 SCHOOLS IN 22 SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THREE STATES. DURING THE 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR, 77 SCHOOLS IN 17 SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN TWO STATES TOOK ADVANTAGE OF OUR OFFERINGS. SCHOOL GROUPS, HOMESCHOOL GROUPS, AND OTHER COMMUNITY GROUP ADMISSIONS ARE DISCOUNTED APPROXIMATELY 33% FOR ENTRY TO THE MUSEUM. THE FULL VALUE OF ADMISSION INCLUDES FULL ACCESS TO ALL EXHIBITS AND THE FREE WEEKLY MENU OF PROGRAMMING ACTIVITIES THAT ENCOMPASS HEALTH, SCIENCE, LITERATURE, ARTS, MOVEMENT, AND GARDENING EDUCATION WITH A MAJOR FOCUS ON STEAM. IN 2019, GROUP ADMISSIONS ENCOMPASSED 29,273 PERSONS WITH TOTAL ADMISSIONS OF 81,876 FOR THE YEAR. THE MUSEUM ALSO PARTICIPATES IN THE RECIPROCAL PROGRAMS OF ASSOCIATION OF SCIENCE-TECHNOLOGY CENTERS, ASSOCIATION OF CHILDREN MUSEUM'S, AND THE MUSEUMS FOR ALL PROGRAM OF THE INSTITUTE OF MUSEUM AND LIBRARY SERVICES, ENGAGING OVER 1,927 VISITORS IN 2019.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS - PROFESSIONAL MUSEUM EDUCATORS HOST ENGAGING CLASSES THAT INVITE HANDS-ON LEARNING AND CREATIVITY. THE MUSEUM CURRICULA ARE ALIGNED WITH THE VIRGINIA STANDARDS OF LEARNING, AND TO AN EXTENT, THE COMMON CORE. OVER 25 SPECIFIC LESSONS OCCUR AT THE MUSEUM OR ARE BROUGHT TO SCHOOL LOCATIONS FOR STUDENTS IN PRE-K THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL. OVER 20,800 STUDENTS AND ADULTS BENEFITED THROUGH MUSEUM-LED CLASSES, STEAM NIGHTS, AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS IN 2019. STEAM NIGHTS BRING THE MUSEUM TO THE CLASSROOM THROUGH HOSTING ENTIRE SCHOOLS IN THEIR BUILDING FOR 10-12 STATIONS OF HANDS-ON INTERACTIVE ACTIVITIES BRINGING STUDENTS AND FAMILIES TOGETHER FOR A FABULOUS LEARNING EXPERIENCE OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ARTS, AND MATH.

SPECIAL EVENT TICKET SALES - SENSORY FRIENDLY NIGHTS, THE ANNUAL 5K, AND SUNDAY FUNDAY PROGRAMS, SUCH AS STAR WARS DAY, SPY NIGHT, FANDEMNIOUM AND HARRY POTTER DAY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, ARE HIGHLY POPULAR WITH FAMILIES AND BRING THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER. THESE EVENTS ENTICE ADULT AND TEEN VOLUNTEERS FROM DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS TO PORTRAY STORM TROOPERS, SUPERHEROES, PRINCESSES, WIZARDS, TO RUN HANDS-ON SCIENCE AND ART STATIONS, AND TO PROVIDE CONNECTIONS TO COMMUNITY HEROES! MUSIC PERFORMANCES, SUNSET SERIES, THE ANNUAL GALA, AND EVENINGS LIKE TRIVIA NIGHT OFFER AN OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE MORE CLOSELY WITH ADULTS IN THE COMMUNITY THAT MAY NOT BE FAMILIAR WITH THE MUSEUM BY OPENING THE DOORS FOR CONVERSATIONS.
