Organizations Filed Purposes: The mission of the York County Volunteer Association is to help needy individuals and families in our local community.

The York County Volunteer Association Grants and Gifts program provides financial assistance to several service organizations in the local community. This included $35,000 to the local food bank to feed the hungry, $14,000 for the Meals on Wheels Program to deliver meals to senior residents living alone, $10,000 to Bright Beginnings Program to provide clothing, coats, shoes, backpacks, and other school supplies for lower income school children, $5,000 to York/Williamsburg/James City County Professional Firefighters and Dispatchers to provide firefighters with suicide prevention training, $5,000 to Alternatives Leadership Academy to build social, emotional and civic competencies for disadvantaged teens, $5,000 for the KidzNGrief/Mikey's Camp for grief-stricken children who have lost a loved one, $3,000 to support Colonial CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) who advocate for abused and neglected children whose families are involved in the legal system, an emergency gift of $5,000 went to help replace teachers' supplies at Grafton Middle/High School that experienced a fire, $2,500 was given for elementary school children to Learn to Swim at the local YMCA, as well as $2,500 for our local York-Poquoson Social Services to support their Emergency Welfare Fund.

The York County Volunteer Association Family Assistance Committee provided financial assistance to needy families and individuals to help with housing, utility, medical, dental, insurance, and transportation expenses through their help line which fielded calls from residents in financial distress.

Scholarships were provided to assist residents with tuition of college and educational organizations to enhance skills to improve the financial condition of themselves and their families. Summer School Tuition was provided to help students from low income families graduate from high school.
