Organizations Filed Purposes: THE BAINBRIDGE ISLAND MUSEUM INSPIRES CURIOSITY, WONDER AND UNDERSTANDING BY CONNECTING PEOPLE WITH THE CONTEMPORARY ART AND CRAFT OF THE PUGET SOUND REGION. THE MUSEUM EXHIBITS, INTERPRETS, PRESERVES, COLLECTS, AND PROMOTES WORKS OF PROVEN CULTURAL VALUE AS WELL AS NEW WORKS BY EMERGING ARTISTS AND CRAFTS PEOPLE.

IN 2019, OUR SIXTH YEAR OF OPERATIONS, BIMA GREW AND FLOURISHED AS A COMMUNITY RESOURCE AND CULTURAL HUB. THROUGH ROBUST AND DIVERSE EXHIBITIONS, CULTURAL PROGRAMMING, AND EDUCATIONAL OFFERINGS FOR ALL AGES, BIMA CELEBRATED OUR REGION'S CULTURE AND ENRICHED OUR COMMUNITY. BIMA WELCOMED VISITORS FROM THE REGION AND BEYOND, INTRODUCING AND CONNECTING PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD TO THE ART AND CULTURE OF THE PUGET SOUND REGION.BIMA PRODUCED VIBRANT EXHIBITIONS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR FEATURING EMERGING THROUGH MASTER LEVEL ARTISTS. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE SOLO SHOWS INCLUDING PATTY GRAZINI, JITE AGBRO, JESSIXA BAGLEY, JOE MAX EMMINGER AND CAROL MILNE. GROUP SHOWS INCLUDED FACE FIRST (PORTRAITS), DEPARTURES AND ARRIVALS: ARTISTS IN ABSTRACTION, AND EXHIBITIONS OF ARTIST'S BOOKS FROM THE CYNTHIA SEARS COLLECTION. THE 2019 EXHIBITION SCHEDULE DEMONSTRATED OUR COMMITMENT TO ARTISTS WHO ARE NOT AS WELL KNOWN, CULTURAL DIVERSITY, ART FOR CHILDREN, AND NEW AND COMPELLING FORMS OF ART. BIMA'S PERMANENT ART COLLECTION GREW, CEMENTING ITS PLACE AT THE HEART OF THE MUSEUM AND REPRESENTING ARTISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT WORKS OF CONTEMPORARY ART AND CRAFT BY ARTIST OF THE PUGET SOUND REGION. IN ITS INAUGURAL YEAR, BIMA'S PRISM CULTURAL PROGRAM BUILT ON PAST SUCCESSES WHILE DEEPENING PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL AND REGIONAL COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND NONPROFITS, PRODUCING A ROBUST AND DIVERSE ROSTER OF EVENTS, FESTIVALS AND PROGRAMMING ALL YEAR LONG. 2019 HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDED THE MOJO RHYTHM & BLUES FESTIVAL, BENEFIT PERFORMANCES OF THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, THE WITHIN/EARSHOT JAZZ FESTIVAL, BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATIONS, MOMENTUM SPRING ARTS FESTIVAL, FILM SERIES AND FESTIVALS, DIA DE LOS MUERTOS, LITERARY EVENTS, LECTURERS, CONCERTS, AND THE JAZZ NUTCRACKER WITH THE ROOSEVELT HIGH SCHOOL JAZZ BAND. BIMA'S CULTURAL PROGRAMS SEEKS TO SHOWCASE AND AMPLIFY A DIVERSE COLLECTION OF VOICES AND ART FORMS.WITH A STRONG HISTORY OF SERVING THE COMMUNITY THROUGH DIRECT EDUCATION AND ARTS OFFERINGS, BIMA'S EDUCATION PROGRAMMING ENCOMPASSING SCHOOL, FAMILY AND CREATIVE AGING INITIATIVES FLOURISHED AND EXPANDED IN 2019. K-12 SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS SERVED OVER 2,500 STUDENTS ON FIELD TRIPS INCLUDING HANDS-ON LEARNING, NEARLY 300 OF WHOM ALSO BENEFITED FROM A TEACHING-ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE. THROUGH A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP, CLASSROOM TEACHERS WERE INTRODUCED TO BEST PRACTICES IN ART INTEGRATION. SUMMER ART CAMPS SAW RECORD ATTENDANCE AND EXPANDED TUITION WAIVERS FOR FAMILIES IN NEED. WORKSHOPS AND DROP-IN ART IN ACTION PROGRAMS CONTINUED TO SERVE PEOPLE OF ALL SKILLS AND ABILITIES IN EXPLORATION AND LEARNING, AMPLIFIED BY ARTIST TALKS AND PANEL DISCUSSIONS. GROWING CREATIVE AGING INITIATIVES SUPPORTED SENIORS INCLUDING THOSE WITH MEMORY LOSS AND THEIR CARE PARTNERS INCLUDING IN-GALLERY ARTS ENGAGEMENT AND FILM DISCUSSIONS.ALL OF THE MUSEUM'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2019 WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT GENEROUS SUPPORT FROM GOVERNMENT AND FOUNDATION GRANTORS, INDIVIDUAL DONORS, SPONSORS, AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS.

THE MUSEUM STORE ACHIEVED SALES OF MORE THAN $300,000 IN 2019, WITH A CAREFULLY CURATED SELECTION OF GLASS, METAL, JEWELRY AND OBJECT IN OTHER MEDIA. DOVETAILING WITH BIMA'S MISSION TO SUPPORT LOCAL ARTISTS, MORE THAN 70% OF THE OFFERINGS FEATURED IN THE MUSEUM STORE IS ORIGINAL ARTWORK CREATED BY NORTHWEST ARTISTS AND ARTISIANS. BY FEATURING ARTISTS WHOSE OTHER WORK IS ON DISPLAY IN THE CURRENT EXHIBITIONS OR IS RELATED IN SOME WAY, THE FREQUENTLY CHANGING DISPLAYS ALLOW VISITORS TO CONTINUE THEIR MUSEUM EXPERIENCE OUTSIDE THE GALLERIES AND TAKE A MEMENTO HOME. IN 2019, BIMA CURATED POP-UP STORE EVENTS THAT GENERATED ADDITIONAL EXCITEMENT AND ENERGIZED THE MUSEUM SPACE DURING EXHIBITION CHANGE OVERS. BY SELLING BIMA MEMBERSHIPS, THE STORE ALSO HELPS BUILD THE COMMUNITY OF SUPPORTERS.

THE BIMA BISTRO, OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK FOR LUNCH AND LIGHT REFRESHMENTS, AND ONE NIGHT PER WEEK FOR DINNER, CONTINUES TO ATTRACT NEW PATRONS VISITING THE MUSEUM AND MAINTAINS A STEADY CLIENTELE OF LOYAL CUSTOMERS. INSPIRED CHEF, A SERIES OF THEMED DINNERS, HAS PROVED TO BE A POPULAR DRAW. ROTATING DISPLAYS OF SMALLER ART WORKS BY LOCAL ARTISTS CREATES CONTINUITY BETWEEN THE GALLERIES AND THE BISTRO, UNIFYING THE MUSEUM AS A PLACE FOR ART, COMMUNITY, AND CONVERSATION.
