ACRES OF DIAMONDS' MISSION IS TO CREATE LASTING CHANGE FOR HOMELESS MOMS AND KIDS THROUGH A CARING COMMUNITY.
ACRES OF DIAMONDS PROVIDES TRANSITIONAL HOUSING AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO HOMELESS WOMEN AND THEIR CHILDREN, SO THAT THEY CAN BREAK THE CYCLES OF ADDICTION, ABUSE AND HOMELESSNESS TO BECOME THRIVING, STABLE FAMILIES.
MANY TRANSITIONAL HOUSING ORGANIZATIONS ARE AT WORK TO HELP HOMELESS FAMILIES. BUT AT ACRES, WE EMBRACE HOMELESS MOMS WHO HAVE A PARTICULARLY PAINFUL PERSONAL HISTORY. THE TYPICAL MOM ACRES SEEKS TO SERVE IS A HOMELESS WOMAN AGE 18-40 WITH CHILDREN RANGING FROM NEWBORNS TO AGE 12. SHE CURRENTLY HAS CUSTODY OF HER KIDS OR IS WORKING TO GET THEM BACK FROM FOSTER CARE. OFTEN SHE HAS GROWN UP WITHOUT A STABLE HOME OR IN A HOME WHERE ABUSE, ADDICTION AND NEGLECT WERE COMMON. SHE MAY HAVE SPENT MUCH OF HER CHILDHOOD IN AND OUT OF FOSTER CARE, SHELTERS, AND RELATIVES' HOMES. SHE IS LIKELY A RECOVERING ADDICT AND BEEN REFERRED TO ACRES BY AN INPATIENT REHABILITATION PROVIDER. IN MOST CASES SHE IS A VICTIM OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. SHE ALMOST ALWAYS HAS MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES.
YET, WHILE HER PAST IS PAINFUL AND HAS CONTRIBUTED TO HER HOMELESSNESS, SHE HAS HOPES AND DREAMS FOR HERSELF AND HER CHILDREN. SHE HAS DECIDED TO TURN HER LIFE AROUND BY ACKNOWLEDGING SHE NEEDS HELP. HER MOTIVATION IS LINKED TO HER DESIRE TO REGAIN CUSTODY OF HER CHILDREN. ACRES PROVIDES THE VARIETY OF SERVICES AND SUPPORT NEEDED TO HELP THIS MOM AND HER CHILDREN ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS.
IN 2020 WE WERE GIFTED A NEW SMALL CAMPUS IN ISSAQUAH CALLED COMPASSION HOUSE. WE ARE PLEASED TO BE ABLE TO SERVE MORE FAMILIES AS A RESULT. THIS PAST YEAR, IN SPITE OF THE MANY CHALLENGES WE FACED WITH THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC, 103 MOMS AND KIDS WERE ABLE TO STAY SAFELY HOUSED, 93 MOMS AND KIDS WERE GIVEN FOOD AND OTHER BASIC SUPPLIES AND 96 KIDS WERE PROVIDED ACTIVITY KITS AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT.
