YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, HEALTHY LIVING AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Youth Development Our YMCA is committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen. We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That is why we help young people cultivate the values, skills, and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health, and educational achievement. Our YMCA child care, camping, youth sports, mentoring and teen programs offer a range of experiences that enrich cognitive, social, physical and emotional growth. Child Care - As the largest child care provider in Snohomish County, the YMCA provides infant, pre-school, toddler, kindergarten and before & after school care to ensure our kids grow up healthy and strong. In 2019, the YMCA served 1,785 children at 24 sites in 7 school districts supporting 51 schools. Camping - YMCA summer camp provides safe places, caring adults and positive activities for kids while focusing on the development of four core character values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Campers have an opportunity to learn new skills, make new friends, and challenge themselves to grow in spirit, mind and body. In 2019, 3,200 youth gained new experiences through a variety of summer camp experiences. Youth Sports - In 2019, 19,449 youth participated in programs like swim lessons and team sports, learning new skills while gaining self-confidence in ongoing wellness activities. Mentoring - Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) and the My Achievers Program (MAP) work to connect youth to positive adult role models to ensure they develop into healthy, productive adults. In 2019, BBBS provided 128 quality one-to-one mentoring matches through school based and community based relationships at no cost to the Littles or their parents. The My Achievers Program assisted 300 minority and immigrant middle and high school students with homework support and academic and career goal setting through relationships with caring adults. Teen Programs - YMCA programs give teens an opportunity to develop relationships, gain self-confidence, and receive academic guidance, providing youth with safe places, caring adults, and productive activities that foster their healthy development. In 2019, 500 teens participated in teen leadership education programs and another 2,150 participated in teen center based activities. Financial Assistance - The YMCA of Snohomish County makes every reasonable effort to ensure that no person, especially youth, will be denied access to programs and membership because of financial hardship. The YMCA's financial assistance program is supported by contributions to our Annual Campaign and United Way. During 2019, $942,678 was provided in direct financial assistance to 2,004 youth participants and $3,150 to 5 organizations.

Healthy Living The Y is a leading voice on health and well-being. We bring families closer together, encourage good health and foster connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, people in our community are receiving the support, guidance and resources they need to achieve greater health in spirit, mind and body. This is particularly important as our nation struggles with an obesity crisis, families struggle with work/life balance and individuals search for personal fulfillment. In 2019, the YMCA supported 65,000 facility members at 6 Snohomish County locations in a variety of asset-rich activities. Members participated in wellness and fitness activities such as group exercise, swimming, basketball, yoga, martial arts, group cycling, racquet sports and weight training. Membership rates are based on age and number of family members wishing to join the YMCA. Financial assistance is provided based on a sliding income scale. Helping people of all ages and abilities develop health in spirit, mind, and body is at the core of the YMCA movement. Our facilities and programs are designed to help people create realistic goals for self-improvement and emphasize chronic disease prevention through regular exercise, proper nutrition, stress management, and health education. In 2019, 600 adults, youth, and care providers were mentored through programs such as "Actively Changing Together" - a youth obesity program, LiveStrong Cancer Survivor Program, Pedaling for Parkinson's Disease and the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program, which all promoted long-term, positive lifestyle change. Active Older Adults (AOA) in the YMCA experience a strong sense of belongingness and a network of friends who provide supportive communities for sustained health and well-being. Through on-going, fun, safe, and engaging programs, activities, and events AOA members increase their self-confidence and sense of achievement while building relationships and celebrating the success and milestones of each other within their AOA community. Older adults, 55 and above, are a significant and growing segment of our communities. All AOA benefit from engaging in YMCA activities that enhance connections, decrease a sense of isolation, and improve overall well-being. The YMCA acted as the fiscal sponsor for the Snohomish County Health Leadership Coalition (SCHLC) from 2013 to 2019. YMCA had control over the funds it received from local health oriented organizations; the SCHLC program was set up as a program of YMCA and aligned with its mission of healthy living. On February 28, 2019, the Steering Committee voted to dissolve the coalition as of March 31, 2019 and that remaining funds of $61,094 be distributed to 4 different notfor-profit organizations to carry on portions of the mission. Financial Assistance - The YMCA of Snohomish County makes every reasonable effort to ensure that no person, especially youth, will be denied access to programs and membership because of financial hardship. The YMCA's financial assistance program is supported by contributions to our Annual Campaign and United Way. During 2019, $2,785,531 was provided in direct financial assistance to 20,195 individuals and $61,094 to 4 organizations.

Social Responsibility Our YMCA believes in giving back and supporting our neighbors. We have been listening and responding to our community's most critical needs for 119 years. Y programs, such as Armed Services YMCA and Y Community (144 individuals) are examples of how we deliver training, resources and support that empower our neighbors to effect change, bridge gaps and overcome obstacles. In 2019, 2,116 volunteers served the YMCA approximately 40,589 hours at a value of $1,032,178.
