Organizations Filed Purposes: THE WHIDBEY CAMANO LAND TRUST PROTECTS THE ISLANDS' MOST IMPORTANT NATURAL HABITATS, SCENIC VISTAS, AND WORKING FARMS AND FORESTS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LANDOWNERS AND OUR ISLAND COMMUNITIES.

LAND PROTECTION:OUR EFFORTS TO PROTECT LAND IN 2020 RESULTED IN EIGHT COMPLETED PROJECTS TOTALING 207 ACRES THAT CONSERVED FOREST, FARMLAND, WETLANDS, TIDELANDS, AND TRAIL ACCESS. WE COMPLETED TWO CONSERVATION EASEMENTS, FIVE FEE LAND ACQUISITIONS, ONE ASSIST ON A FEE ACQUISITION, AND PURCHASED A TRAIL AND PARKING LOT EASEMENT. CONSERVED LANDS INCLUDED FOUR "FOREVER WILD" PROPERTIES AND A SCENIC AGRICULTURAL PROPERTY IN EBEY'S LANDING NATIONAL HISTORICAL RESERVE. A FEW NOTABLE PROJECTS WERE FACILITATING THE PROTECTION OF 65 ACRES OF FOREST THAT HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE FORT EBEY STATE PARK, AS WELL AS EXPANDING AN ESTUARY PRESERVE ON CAMANO ISLAND. FUNDING FOR THE EXPANSION OF THE ESTUARY PRESERVE CAME FROM A STATE GRANT AND A LAND VALUE DONATION BY THE LANDOWNERS. WE ALSO SUBMITTED GRANTS AND ACTIVELY WORKED ON PROTECTING ANOTHER 16 PROPERTIES, MANY TO CLOSE IN 2021.

STEWARDSHIP:NATIVE PLANTINGS AT FIVE LAND TRUST PRESERVES WERE MAINTAINED. PRAIRIE RESTORATION ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING A CONTROLLED BURN, IMPROVED RARE PRAIRIE HABITAT. NEW TRAIL AND PARKING AREA CREATED SOUTH OF CLINTON AT OUR POSSESSION SOUND PRESERVE TO CREATE NEW BEACH ACCESS FOR THE PUBLIC. WE COMPLETED ADDITIONAL TRAIL CONSTRUCTION ON THE WALKING EBEY'S TRAIL PROJECT. MAJOR NOXIOUS WEED REMOVAL OCCURRED ON ALL LAND TRUST FEE PROPERTIES AND SEVERAL CONSERVATION EASEMENTS. WE REMOVED GARBAGE, MAINTAINED AND INSTALLED PUBLIC TRAILS, SIGNS AND FENCES, AND INSPECTED ALL LAND TRUST FEE-HELD PROPERTIES. ANNUAL MONITORING WAS COMPLETED ON ALL 67 CONSERVATION EASEMENT PROPERTIES. 84 VOLUNTEERS COMPLETED 3,792 VOLUNTEER HOURS THROUGH WORK PARTIES AND INDEPENDENT PROJECTS.

COMMUNICATION AND OUTREACH:WE PRODUCED AND DISTRIBUTED FOUR PRINTED NEWSLETTERS AND A SPECIAL CLIMATE CHANGE EDITION. MEMBERS RECEIVED ELEVEN E-NEWS WITH CONSERVATION UPDATES AND 30 OTHER E-MAIL COMMUNICATIONS. WE PUT ON 4 VIRTUAL EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES CONNECTING PEOPLE TO THE LAND, INCLUDING OUR SEA, TREES, AND PIE BIKE RIDE, PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT, AND EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS. WE TABLED AT THREE PUBLIC EVENTS, PUBLISHED A 2021 CALENDAR SOLD AT 15 LOCAL RETAIL LOCATIONS, AND WERE HIGHLIGHTED IN 23 LOCAL NEWSPAPER ARTICLES.
