Organizations Filed Purposes:
The organization was established to prevent child relinquishment in Haitian families...to promote job opportunities and to offer job skills training for Haitians... to offer childcare for children at risk so parents can work... to promote educational opportunities for children, empowering them with hope and future possibilities... to raise awareness of opportunities to serve the Haitian poor through media.
The Apparent Project has trained Haitians in bead making, jewelry making, sewing and other artistic trades. A production company now trains & employs these artisans, while Apparent Project continues to help distribute & sell items produced through Party Boxes & Fundraiser orders. In 2019, over 41,000 items were shipped, resulting in continued employment for the artisans.
The Apparent Project Institute has trained approximately 75 assistant managers & artisans from the production company in typing, basic English, Excel & Word. This improves opportunity for further education & moreemployment opportunities for these Haitian workers. Over 20 Apparent Project staff have also received the same training in in typing, basic English, Excel & Word. This has increased their ability to provide management reports. It will also help them throughout their lifetime with better employment opportunities. Several teenagers are also now attending the same training. This will help them further their education & provide excellent employment opportunities in the future. Currently 4 teens have enrolled in our program, and we hope to increase the numbers this year.
Apparent Project Childcare & Early Education School currently has about 60-65 children attending. The Infants and toddlers (2K class) has approximately 25 children daily. The 3k/4k class has 16 children. With the political unrest, some children were unable to attend school this year. But we still had 23 children in the 5K, 1st & 2nd grades. After school care is provided for children whose parents work past normal school hours. Children are taught French, Creole and some English through music & song. AP has established a good reputation, so there is a long waiting list for next year. We've outgrown our facility but still plan to add 3rd grade next year. We are working on obtaining the "space" needed.
