Organizations Filed Purposes:
Project Ethiopia empowers villagers to implement and sustain improvements in health, education, and local economic activity. These culturally appropriate improvements originate collaboratively with villagers and are accomplished with local labor and materials.
In 2019, Project Ethiopia completed 2 rural primary school buildings that now serve more than 450 students in grades K - 8 each day. We replaced grass roofing with durable, long-lasting iron roofing for 38 of the neediest households resulting in 68 adults and 83 children now living in dry homes. Through our low-interest micro loan program, we awarded 18 loans to 14 women and 4 men with an average loan size of $374. In September, we provided University Transition Awards to 80 high school graduate preparing to leave for university. These packages consist of essential items for making the transition from village to city including a sturdy suitcase, book bag, bedding and blanket, mobile phone, and round trip bus fare. We formed two new Farmers' Associations, each comprised of 50 model farmers and provided each member with tools and materials to improve their farm production. Lastly, we painted the main living area of 506 homes to prepare for solar lantern distribution to each home in 2020.
