CHINOOK ENTERPRISES IS A SELF-SUSTAINING NON-PROFIT MODELED AS A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE WHICH USES PROFITS FROM ITS PRODUCTION DIVISION TO FUND THE MISSION. THE PRODUCTION DIVISION MANUFACTURES PRODUCTS IS WORKING TO DIVERSIFY THE CUSTOMER PROFILE TO COMMERCIAL SECTORS. THE FOCUS IN 2019 WAS EXPANDING AND DIVERSIFYING OUR CAPABILITIES. A NEW 60-TON PRESS BRAKE MACHINE WAS PURCHASED FOR BOTH AEROSPACE AND COMMERCIAL SECTORS. PRODUCTION EMPLOYS 31 PERSONS, 20% REPORTED HAVING A DISABILITY. THE AVERAGE LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT WAS 9 YEARS RANGING FROM LESS THAN ONE YEAR TO MORE THAN 30 YEARS OF SERVICE.
THE CES DIVISION DRIVES THE COMPANY'S MISSION BY OFFERING JOB PLACEMENT SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES. ANNUALLY, CHINOOK PROVIDES COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT SERVICES FOR OVER 150 PEOPLE WITH VARIOUS ABILITIES OR OTHER BARRIERS. WE WORKED WITH OVER 60 LOCAL BUSINESSES ALONG WITH SKAGIT COUNTY AND DSHS TO FIND EMPLOYMENT PLACEMENTS. CHINOOK ALSO PROVIDES COMMUNITY INCLUSION SERVICES WHICH HELP COMMUNITY MEMBERS LIVE FULLER LIVES. CHINOOK CONTINUES TO PARTICIPATE IN LOCAL AND REGIONAL CONFERENCES, COUNCILS, AND BOARDS.
THE LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE DIVISION HAS A CREW OF 15 EMPLOYEES, 75% WITH A DISABILITY. THE LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE TEAM FALLS UNDER THE PREVAILING WAGE LAWS OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON AND WAS IN JEOPARDY OF BEING LOST DUE TO JOB CLASSIFICATION AND WAGE CHANGES AT THE BEGINNING OF 2019. AN EMERGENCY RULE WAS ENACTED BY THE STATE AND OUR TEAM WAS ABLE TO RETURN TO WORK. ADDITIONAL CONTRACTS WERE WON IN 2019 WHICH EXTEND THROUGH 2022. THE CREW PERFORMS TASKS SUCH AS MOWING, TRIMMING, EDGING, LEAF BLOWING, RE-PLANTING, AND WEED CONTROL. THE CREW IS FULLY INCLUSIVE AND DIVERSE IN TERMS OF RACE, ETHNICITY, SEX, AND ABILITIES. THE ORGANIZATION'S AVERAGE HOURLY WAGE FOR THE GROUNDS MAINTENANCE DIVISION IN 2019 WAS $15.98, WHICH EXCEEDS THE PREVAILING WAGE REQUIREMENTS.
