NWSWB WORKS CLOSELY WITH THE BOATBUILDING INDUSTRY TO ENSURE THAT SKILLS TAUGHT ARE RELEVANT TO CURRENT NEEDS. THE SCHOOL'S POST-SECONDARY DEGREE AND DIPLOMA PROGRAMS ARE APPROVED BY THE WASHINGTON STATE WORKFORCE TRAINING AND EDUCATION BOARD, ACCREDITED BY THE ACCREDITING COMMISSION OF CAREER SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES, APPROVED BY
TRADITIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY WOODEN BOATBUILDING PROGRAMS ARE COMPREHENSIVE 12 MONTH DEGREE PROGRAMS. THE 90 CREDIT AOS DEGREE PROGRAM IN TRADITIONAL WOODEN BOATBUILDING TEACHES STUDENTS TO BUILD A VARITY OF TRADITIONALLY CONSTRUCTED VESSELS AND PREPARES THEM FOR ENTRY-LEVEL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE FIELD OF WOODEN BOAT BUILDING INCLUDING TRADITIONAL BOAT SHOPS, SHIP YARDS, EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND MARIITME MUSEUMS. THE 90 CREDIT AOS DEGREE PROGRAM IN COMTEMPORARY WOODEN BOAT BUILDING TEACHES STUDENTS THE MODERN TECHNOLOGY OF WOODEN BOAT CONSTRUCTION THAT IS EMPLOYED BY MANY YACHT MANUFACTURERS AND WOODEN BOAT BUILDERS WHO ARE MELDING THE AESTHETICS OF WOOD WITH THE ADVANTAGE OF HIGH-PERFORMANCE ADHESIVES AND SHEATHING MATERIALS. THIS DEGREE PREPARES THEM FOR ENTRY-LEVEL EMPLOYMENT IN BOAT SHOPS AND VESSEL MANUFACTURING UTILIZING LAMINATING, STRIP- PLANKING, COLD MOLDING, AND OTHER COMPOSITE BOAT BUILDING TECHNIQUES.
THE MARINE SYSTEMS PROGRAM COVERS SUBJECTS INTEGRAL TO BOAT BUILDING AND REPAIR, SUCH AS ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS, CORROSION, DIESEL AND GAS ENGINES, PROPULSION, HYDRAULICS, MARINE PLUMBING AND MARINE HVAC. COMPLETION OF THE 42 CREDIT DIPLOMA PROGRAM PREPARES A STUDENT FOR ENTRY-LEVEL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN MARINE TRADES WITH AN EMPHASIS ON MARINE SYSTEMS.
