Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS OF PUYALLUP (CIS) IS TO SURROUND STUDENTS WITH A COMMUNITY OF SUPPORT, EMPOWERING THEM TO STAY IN SCHOOL AND ACHIEVE IN LIFE.

SITE COORDINATION: THROUGH SITE COORDINATION, A SITE COORDINATOR FILLS A PIVOTAL ROLE IN SCHOOLS AS THE SINGLE POINT OF CONTACT WORKING INSIDE THE SCHOOL TO CONNECT COMMUNITY RESOURCES TO STUDENTS AND FAMILIES IN NEED OF THESE RESOURCES. THESE RESOURCES CAN BE BAGS OF FOOD FOR THE 375 STUDENTS THAT RECEIVED WEEKEND FOOD OR THE 212 VOLUNTEERS THAT DEVOTED TIME WEEKLY TO TUTORING AND MENTORING STUDENTS. SITE COORDINATORS CAN DETERMINE THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF THE SCHOOL AND INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS AND ALIGN RESOURCES IN OUR COMMUNITY TO MEET THOSE NEEDS. THIS FORM OF INTEGRATED SERVICES PROVES TO BE SUCCESSFUL, WITH OVER 7 OUT OF 10 STUDENTS RECEIVING ONGOING SERVICES MEETING AT LEAST ONE OF THEIR ASSIGNED GOALS.

SHARING RESOURCES: TO SUPPORT THE SCHOOLS IN PUYALLUP WITHOUT A SITE COORDINATOR, WE PARTNER WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES, CHURCHES, SERVICE CLUBS, AND INDIVIDUALS TO MATCH THEIR RESOURCES WITH THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS. AN ESTIMATED $41,610 WORTH OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES WERE DONATED AND DISTRIBUTED TO ALL SCHOOLS IN THE PUYALLUP SCHOOL DISTRICT. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE FAITH COMMUNITY, OVER THE SUMMER 2,580 MEALS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO FAMILIES WHO UTILIZE FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR.

MARCH GLADNESS:CIS BELIEVES THAT EVERY STUDENT IS ENTITLED TO FIVE BASICS: A ONE-TO-ONE RELATIONSHIP WITH A CARING ADULT, A SAFE PLACE TO LEARN AND GROW, A HEALTHY START AND A HEALTHY FUTURE, A MARKETABLE SKILL TO USE UPON GRADUATION, AND A CHANCE TO GIVE BACK TO PEERS AND COMMUNITY. TO PROVIDE THE FINAL BASIC, CIS PUYALLUP FACILITATES MARCH GLADNESS, A THREE MONTH LONG ANNUAL COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENT. BETWEEN THE MONTHS OF JANUARY AND MARCH, EVERY SCHOOL IN THE PUYALLUP SCHOOL DISTRICT HOSTS AT LEAST ONE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT THAT THEIR STUDENTS CAN PARTICIPATE IN. LAST YEAR, 5,090 STUDENTS HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN PROJECTS AND RAISED OVER $12,181 FOR VARIOUS CAUSES.
