THE PUYALLUP VALLEY ST FRANCIS HOUSE EASES THE HARDSHIPS OF LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS IN EAST PIERCE COUNTY BY PROVIDING CLOTHING, FOOD AND EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE. TO THIS END, IT OPERATES A CLOTHING BANK, AN EVENING MEAL PROGRAM, ENGLISH-AS-SECOND LANGUAGE CLASSES.
CLOTHING BANK: IN 2019, OUR CLOTHING BANK HOSTED 9,852 VISITS BY REGISTERED CLIENTS AND REGISTERED 637 NEW CLIENTS DURING THE YEAR. DURING THESE VISITS, 169,576 ITEMS OF CLOTHING AND HOUSEHOLD GOODS WERE DISTRIBUTED AS WELL AS 59,381 FOOD ITEMS. THE CLOTHING BANK ALSO SERVED 3,797 HOMELESS CLIENTS WHO AND RECEIVED 30,397 ITEMS. 399 NEW HOMELESS CLIENTS WERE REGISTERED FOR ST. FRANCIS HOUSE PROGRAMS IN 2019. THE CLOTHING BANK VOLUNTEERS WERE COMPRISED OF ABOUT 80 INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERS THAT DONATED 9,158 HOURS AND 5 COMMUNITY AND CORPORATE GROUPS THAT DONATED 239 HOURS.
EVENING MEAL PROGRAM: THE EVENING MEAL PROGRAM SERVED 13,638 INDIVIDUAL MEALS DURING THE YEAR. THE EVENING MEAL PROGRAM IS VOLUNTEER-BASED AND HAD A TOTAL OF 2,650 HOURS DONATED BY 36 TEAMS OF 5 THAT BROUGHT AND SERVED MEALS AS WELL AS 8 OTHER VOLUNTEERS THAT REGULARLY SUPPORT THE PROGRAM.
EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE: THE PUYALLUP VALLEY ST. FRANCIS HOUSE PROVIDES EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN EAST PIERCE COUNTY AND ADMINISTERS THE HOMELESS PREVENTION FUND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF PUYALLUP. FROM THE ST. FRANCIS HOUSE FUND, 317 HOUSEHOLDS RECEIVED 54,527 IN ASSISTANCE THAT WENT DIRECTLY TO PAY FOR RENT, UTILITIES, BUS TICKETS, VEHICLE GAS, PROPANE, LAUNDRY, AND OTHER NEEDS. RENTAL ASSISTANCE, UTILITY ASSISTANCE AND BUS TICKETS ARE PAID DIRECTLY TO THE VENDOR. THROUGH COOPERATION WITH LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS, THE GAS AND PROPANE FUNDS ARE DISTRIBUTED THROUGH A VOUCHER SYSTEM. THE PROGRAM IS ADMINISTERED BY A PART-TIME STAFF MEMBER.
