SHENG-YEN LU FOUNDATION MADE 14 EDUCATION GRANTS IN 2019 AS FOLLOWS: 1) CISC'S EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM; 2) COLLEGE POSSIBLE'S COLLEGE PERSISTENCE PROGRAM ENSURING HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION AND COLLEGE SUCCESS; 3) COLLEGE SUCCESS FOUNDATION'S ACHIEVERS SCHOLARS PROGRAM; 4) DENISE LOUIE EDUCATION CENTER FOR SUPPORTING QUALITY MULTICULTURAL EARLY EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN FROM IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE FAMILIES; 5) EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY SERVICES' K-12 AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM; 6) IRAQI COMMUNITY CENTER OF WA'S EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM; 7) KANDELIA'S ACADEMIC PROGRAMS, WHICH PROVIDE AFTER SCHOOL, SATURDAY, AND SUMMER PROGRAMS TO OVER 200 LOW-INCOME IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE STUDENTS; 8) LITERACY SOURCE HELPING ADULTS WITH LANGUAGE SKILLS NECESSARY FOR SELF-SUFFICIENCY; 9) RAINIER SCHOLARS PROVIDING ACCESS AND OPPORTUNITY TO HIGHER EDUCATION FOR MARGINALIZED YOUTH; 10) REFUGEE WOMEN'S ALLIANCE'S YOUTH JOB TRAINING PROGRAM; 11) SOMALI YOUTH & FAMILY CLUB'S EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM; 12) WEST AFRICAN COMMUNITY COUNCIL'S MULTICULTURAL EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM; 13) WORLD RELIEF SEATTLE'S NEXTGEN PROGRAM FOR REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANT YOUTH; AND 14) YOUNG WOMEN EMPOWERED'S ACADEMIC AND CAREER EXPLORATIONS PROGRAM.
SHENG-YEN LU FOUNDATION MADE 11 HEALTH CARE GRANTS IN 2019 AS FOLLOWS: 1) ASIAN COUNSELING AND REFERRAL SERVICE; 2) HEALTHPOINT COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER; 3) INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES; 4) KIN ON HEALTH CARE CENTER; 5) NEIGHBORCARE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER; 6) OPEN ARMS PERINATAL SERVICES; 7) PROJECT ACCESS NORTHWEST; 8) REFUGEES NORTHWEST; 9) RENTON AREA YOUTH & FAMILY SERVICES; 10) SOMALI HEALTH BOARD; AND 11) SOUTH SEATTLE WOMEN'S HEALTH FOUNDATION. ALL GRANT RECIPIENTS REACH OUT TO UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS AND OFFER MEDICAL, MENTAL AND/OR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, AND DENTAL CARE TO MANY WHO WOULD OTHERWISE BE WITHOUT. NO PATIENTS ARE TURNED AWAY FOR INABILITY TO PAY.
SHENG-YEN LU FOUNDATION CREATED TWO FUNDS TO BETTER ADDRESS EMERGING CHALLENGES FACED BY IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE COMMUNITIES. SEVEN GRANTS WERE MADE FROM THE EMERGENT NEEDS FUND TO SUPPORT DEPORTATION LEGAL DEFENSE, KNOW-YOUR-RIGHTS TRAININGS, AND PUBLIC CHARGE AND CENSUS OUTREACH AND EDUCATION WORK. THESE ORGANIZATIONS RECEIVED 2019 EMERGENT NEEDS FUND GRANTS: 1) EASTSIDE LEGAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM; 2) COLECTIVA LEGAL DEL PUEBLO; 3) NORTHWEST HEALTH LAW ADVOCATES; 4) NORTHWEST IMMIGRANT RIGHTS PROJECT; 5) REFUGEES NORTHWEST; 6) SOMALI HEALTH BOARD; AND 7) WEST AFRICAN COMMUNITY COUNCIL. SIX GRANTS WERE MADE FROM THE RAPID RESPONSE FUND TO ADDRESS CRITICAL TIME-SENSITIVE NEEDS. RAPID RESPONSE FUND GRANTS WERE MADE TO: 1) ANNUNCIATION HOUSE; 2) BUREAU OF FEARLESS IDEAS; 3) KITSAP IMMIGRANT ASSISTANCE CENTER; 4) IRAQI COMMUNITY CENTER OF WA; 5) SAVE THE CHILDREN; AND 6) WASHINGTON IMMIGRANT SOLIDARITY NETWORK.
