Organizations Filed Purposes: TO PROVIDE INNOVATIVE SCHOOL PROGRAMS, THERAPIES, AND TRAINING THAT PROMOTE SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, AND ACADEMIC GROWTH FOR CHILDREN WITH SEVERE LEARNING AND BEHAVIORAL CHALLENGES.

CHILD IS A 3-COMPONENT ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES 1) THERAPEUTIC DAY-SCHOOL SERVICES, 2) PEDIATRIC CLINICAL THERAPY FOR STUDENTS AND PRIVATE CLIENTS, AND 3) SUPPORT AND TRAINING FOR PARENTS AND PROFESSIONALS.

CHILD PROVIDES THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTIONS TO REACH CHILDREN WHO WOULD OTHERWISE CONTINUE TO FAIL AT SCHOOL. THE GOAL OF ALL CHILD PROGRAMS IS TO ALIGN THE EFFORTS OF CHILDREN, THEIR FAMILIES AND SCHOOL PERSONNEL TO INCREASE UNDERSTANDING OF LEARNING DIFFERENCES AND HELP CHILDREN OVERCOME THE OBSTACLES TO THEIR LEARNING, SO THEY ARE ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY TRANSITION BACK TO SCHOOL PROGRAMS IN THEIR HOME COMMUNITIES. AT CHILD, THE FOCUS IS ON DEVELOPING A SET OF DURABLE CORE STRENGTHS INCREASED LEVELS OF SELF-REGULATION, AN INCREASED ABILITY TO MAINTAIN RELATIONSHIPS, AND INCREASED COPING SKILLS - TO HELP CHILDREN ACHIEVE ONGOING RESILIENCE. CHILD EMPLOYS A PROJECT-BASED CURRICULUM WHERE INTEGRATED ARTS, MUSIC, VIDEOGRAPHY, AND OUTDOOR EDUCATION ARE ALL PART OF OUR CORE PROGRAMMING. CREDENTIALED/LICENSED TEACHERS, MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELORS, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS, AND SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGISTS DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT ACTIVITIES SEQUENCED OVER TIME TO HELP CHILDREN MASTER BEHAVIORAL AND SENSORY CHALLENGES. AS STUDENTS INCREASE THEIR PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS, THEY BUILD THE RESILIENCE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE AT SCHOOL IN MORE TYPICAL SETTINGS. SINCE 1977, WE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY EDUCATED CHILDREN WITH A RANGE OF CONDITIONS THAT INTERFERE WITH LEARNING, INCLUDING: COMMUNICATION DEFICITS, INABILITY TO SELF-REGULATE, ANXIETY, IMPULSIVITY, BEHAVIORAL CHALLENGES, DISORGANIZATION AND INFLEXIBLE THINKING, AND SENSORY PROCESSING DISORDERS. CHILD IS AN APPROVED NONPUBLIC AGENCY BY THE WASHINGTON STATE OFFICE OF SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION (OSPI) AND AS A PRIVATE SCHOOL BY THE WASHINGTON STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION.

CHILD ALSO PROVIDES DEVELOPMENTAL THERAPY SERVICES TO CHILDREN. OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS PROVIDE EVALUATION AND TREATMENT SERVICES FOR CHILDREN WHO HAVE DIFFICULTY UNDERSTANDING, UTILIZING, AND ORGANIZING INFORMATION FROM THE WORLD AROUND THEM THAT THEY GATHER THROUGH THEIR EYES, EARS, AND TOUCH. THESE SENSORY INTEGRATION ISSUES OFTEN CAUSE PROBLEMS SUCH AS IMPULSIVENESS, DISTRACTIBILITY, COORDINATION, EMOTIONAL FRAGILITY, AND OVER-SENSITIVITY. CHILD'S THERAPISTS SCREEN ALL OF OUR NEW STUDENTS SO THAT SUBTLE NEURO-DEVELOPMENTAL ISSUES, ISSUES THAT CAN CREATE A BREAKDOWN OF LEARNING ARE NOT OVERLOOKED. IN ADDITION, THE CLINIC'S SPEECH/LANGUAGE THERAPY ASSISTS STUDENTS IN IMPROVING THEIR USE OF RECEPTIVE AND EXPRESSIVE LANGUAGE. STUDENTS WORK WITH THE SPEECH THERAPIST ONE-ON-ONE AND IN SMALL GROUP SESSIONS TO DEVELOP THEIR ARTICULATION AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS. SERVICES OFFERED INCLUDE COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENTS, INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP THERAPY, CONSULTATION WITH TEACHERS AND PARENTS, AND ASSISTANCE WITH CLASSROOM PROGRAMMING.WHILE CHILD PROVIDES DEVELOPMENTAL THERAPY SERVICES TO MANY OF ITS STUDENTS, THE CLINIC ALSO PROVIDES EVALUATION AND THERAPY SERVICES TO CLIENTS WHO ARE NOT ENROLLED AT CHILD. REFERRALS COME FROM PHYSICIANS, TEACHERS, PARENTS AND OTHER CONCERNED INDIVIDUALS WHO WORK WITH CHILDREN.
