Organizations Filed Purposes:
To provide a successful learning environment for students with learning disabilities, attention deficits, and other learning differences. It offers a wide range of academic programs and extracurricular activities with accommodations to meet the needs of its learners. The school serves students in grades 4-12 from a geographical region ranging from Issaquah, to Everett, to Bainbridge Island, To Tacoma, and everywhere in between.
Ten faculty and four staff members served students. Learning Differences included learning disabilities (E G, Dyslexia, communication disorder, nonverbal language disorder), Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), brain injury, autism spectrum disorder & disorders of executive functioning and other learning differences. The NHS curriculum is reviewed on a yearly basis and changes are made to accommodate students needs based on graduation requirements and interests of students. Our school programs accommodate a wide variety of learning styles and special education needs. We strive to create activities that engage each student actively in learning. We use specialized curricular and instructional methods to deliver subject matter. Aligned common core standards enabled 70 students with learning differences to achieve academic, social, behavioral and emotional success in a supportive, accepting educational environment. -Required each high school student to develop a project that will culminate in their senior year- Continued developing our transition program to help our students move on to employment, higher education or public school. 18-21 programs after they leave New Horizon School.- received continued accreditation from advance and northwest accreditation commission- Completed campus wide classroom upgrades and began the process of replacing desktop computers to laptop computers in the classrooms to allow easier use of software (both conventional and adaptive) additional programs included.- Planning for transition to adult life, counseling and extracurricular activities such as ski/snowboard club, archery, ASB, fishing club, order of the black watch & model club- Contract services for academic testing and speech therapy. Speech therapy and mental health counseling are available on campus.
