Organizations Filed Purposes: ABUSED DEAF WOMEN'S ADVOCACY SERVICES EMPOWERS DEAF AND DEAFBLIND SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SEXUAL ASSAULT AND HARASSMENT TO TRANSFORM THEIR LIVES, WHILE STRIVING TO CHANGE THE BELIEFS AND BEHAVIORS THAT FOSTER AND PERPETUATE VIOLENCE. WE PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES, COMMUNITY EDUCATION, AND ADVOCACY ON SYSTEMS AND POLICY ISSUES.

SERVICES FOR DEAF & DEAFBLIND WOMEN WHO ARE VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND/OR SEXUAL ASSAULT.

ADVOCACY - ADWAS HAS ADVOCATES ON STAFF TO ASSIST PEOPLE WHO ARE VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC/SEXUAL VIOLENCE. SERVICES ARE FREE OF CHARGE AND AVAILABLE TO PEOPLE WHO ARE DEAF, DEAFBLIND OR HARD OF HEARING. MOST ARE RESIDENTS OF KING, PIERCE OR SNOHOMISH COUNTY. ADWAS ALSO SERVES THOSE FROM AROUND THE STATE WHO ARE ABLE TO COME TO ADWAS FOR SERVICES. DURING 2019, ADWAS SERVED 109 SURVIVORS AND THEIR FAMILY THROUGH OUR DIRECT SERVICE PROGRAMS (ADVOCACY, COUNSELING, SUPPORTIVE HOUSING). WE PROVIDED 28 PRIMARY PREVENTION ACTIVITIES, 33 OUTREACH AND COMMUNITY EDUCATION ACTIVTIES, REACHING OUT TO MINIMUM OF 500 INDIVIDUALS. ADWAS ALSO PROVIDED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO AGENCIES ON HOW BEST TO WORK WITH DEAF SURVIVORS THAT THEY WORK WITH. ADWAS WEBSITE RECEIVED APPROXIMATELY 50,000 VISITS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. COUNSELING - THE ADVOCACY & COUNSELING PROGRAM OFFERS VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT THE FOLLOWING SERVICES: SHORT-TERM CRISIS COUNSELING, SAFETY PLANNING ON-GOING INDIVIDUAL/FAMILY THERAPY RELATED TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE & SEXUAL ASSAULT GROUP COUNSELING RELATED TO CHILDHOOD SEXUAL ASSAULT AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CLIENT ADVOCACY AND REFERRALS EMERGENCY SHELTER: WE PROVIDED 502 BED NIGHTS FOR ADULTS AND 698 BED NIGHTS FOR CHILDREN.

THE CHILDREN'S PROGRAM PROVIDES THE FOLLOWING SERVICES TO CHILDREN WHOSE LIVES HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND/OR SEXUAL ASSAULT. ADWAS PROVIDES THERAPY, ADVOCACY, STRUCTURED EDUCATIONAL AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES. THE ACTIVITIES THAT ARE OFFERED INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO; HOMEWORK CLUB, WEEK LONG DAY CAMP IN SUMMER TIME, ART CLASSES, FAMILY FUN NIGHTS, AND PARTICIPATION IN COORDINATED ACTIVITIES PROVIDED BY OUR CHILDRES'S ADVOCATE AS WELL AS OUTSIDE PROVIDERS. WE PROVIDED THREE 1-WEEKLONG DAY CAMPS; 1 WEEK FOR AGES 3-5, 1 WEEK FOR DEAF CHILDREN AGE 6-12, AND 1 WEEK FOR KIDS OF DEAF ADULTS (KODAS) AGES 6-12.

NATIONAL DEAF HOTLINE CONTINUES TO WORK ON REACHING OUT TO DEAF, DEAFBLIND COMMUNITY ADVERTISING ABOUT THE HOTLINE. HOTLINE WEBSITE WAS CREATED, WWW.THEDEAFHOTLINE.ORG, ALSO WE STARTED ACCEPTING LIVE CHAT AS ANOTHER PLATFORM FOR SURVIVORS TO CONTACT THE HOTLINE. WE CONTINUE TO INCREASE OUR OUTREACH AND MARKETING EFFORTS SO OUR NUMBERS CAN CONTINUE TO INCREASE. IN 2019 WE RECEIVED 1,000 CALLS.
