THE RESIDENCY - THE RESIDENCY IS A COLLABORATION BETWEEN ARTS CORPS, MOPOP, AND MACKLEMORE AND RYAN LEWIS TO PROVIDE AN ARTS EDUCATION AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PLATFORM FOR ASPIRING TEEN HIP HOP ARTISTS IN THE SEATTLE REGION. THE PRIMARY FOCUS IS YOUTH OF COLOR AND YOUTH FROM LOW-INCOME FAMILIES. YOUTH ARE PROVIDED WITH HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION AND MENTORSHIP FROM LOCAL AND VISITING ARTISTS, AND ARE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO PRODUCE EPS OF THEIR WORK, AS WELL AS PARTICIPATE IN PERFORMANCES THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF THE YEAR. THE COHORT FOR 2019-2020 WAS 39 STUDENTS.
ARTS INTEGRATION (CREATIVE SCHOOLS) - ARTS CORPS WORKED WITH 10 SCHOOLS IN THE SEATTLE AND HIGHLINE SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO PROVIDE INTEGRATED ARTS LEARNING. TEACHING ARTISTS WORK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CLASSROOM TEACHERS TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT PROJECT-BASED LESSON PLANS THAT INTEGRATE ARTS WITH CORE SUBJECT AREAS WHILE DEVELOPING STUDENTS' CREATIVE CAPACITIES. THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO STRENGTHEN THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND EXPAND TEACHER CAPACITY TO ENGAGE STUDENTS CREATIVELY. THIS PROGRAM SERVED APPROXIMATELY 2,000 STUDENTS.
TEEN LEADERSHIP - TEEN LEADERSHIP CONSISTS OF TWO COURSES DURING THE YEAR; ALLI AND YOUTH SPEAKS. ALLI, OR ARTS LIBERATION AND LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE, IS A FOUR-WEEK COURSE FOR STUDENTS TO RECEIVE ARTS INSTRUCTION WITH EMPHASIS ON ACTIVISM. FIFTEEN STUDENTS RECEIVED INSTRUCTION IN VISUAL ARTS, VOCAL MUSIC, AND SPOKEN WORD. YOUTH SPEAKS IS A PROGRAM FOCUSED ON INSTRUCTION OF SPOKEN WORD AND SLAM POETRY, AS WELL AS LEADERSHIP AND CAREER SKILLS. THIS YEAR'S 8 STUDENTS MET WEEKLY TO SHARE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS. AND PRODUCED 4 COMPETITIONS OVER THE COURSE OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.
