Seattle CityClub's mission is to inform, connect and engage the public to strengthen the civic health of our region. It's our vision that, along with natural wonder, innovative business and vibrant culture, the Puget Sound region is defined by informed people engaged with their leaders in effective democracy.
Seattle CityClub hosts five types of programs and over 20 individual events each year.
All Others: Local Debates - CityClub-produced debates put local candidates up close and personal with the people they seek to represent. Because we partner with television, radio and online media outlets for local debates, we reach tens of thousands of voters who can compare and contrast candidates and then make more informed choices at the ballot box. CityClub aims to bring candidates and voters together to learn the facts about public problems and to explore differing approaches to solve them. We strive to eradicate polarization, end indifference, and empower people with knowledge in a safe and civil environment. In 2019, our debates served over 1,500 in person attendees, and received over 22,000 online views.Legislative Preview - Seattle CityClubs Legislative Preview Luncheon has been a signature Seattle event for decades. The forum features the top leadership from the Washington State Legislature on both sides of the aisle. Moderated by leading regional journalists, our discussion takes an in-depth look at the top priorities for the upcoming session and the impact it will have on individuals and the community at large.Washington State Debate Coalition - The Washington State Debate Coalition was founded by Seattle CityClub in 2016 to enhance Washingtonians access to those who hold and seek our state's highest elected offices. The Coalition is comprised of civic leaders, nonpartisan organizations, colleges and universities and media partners committed to leading the nation in setting a higher standard for political debates. With 1,800 debate attendees and over 1 million viewers on TV/online in its inaugural year, the Coalition created a solution that tapped into a strong public desire across the state for direct access to candidates. There were no Washington State Debates in 2019.
Civic Cocktail - offers a lively look at big events and important issues facing the Puget Sound region, connecting community leaders with residents for engaging conversation. The program's conversational format features elected officials, community organization leaders, journalists, political pundits, news-makers, and local residents. Co-produced by Seattle CityClub and Seattle Channel, Civic Cocktails are held each month from February to June and from October to November. In 2019, Civic Cocktail had around 1,600 registrants over eight events, including 333 free tickets to under-served individuals.
Year in Review - Seattle CityClubs annual Year in Review is the time to reflect on the pressing issues and major headlines of the previous year, revisit predictions and see how events changed or stayed the course. Moderated by a leading local journalist, our panel of leaders and luminaries engages in a provocative and wide-ranging discussion of topics like race and equity, minimum wage and affordability, trade and international affairs, education, and current legislative priorities.
